perhaps in the conference their records were close (going into the game duke was 11-3, virginia was 9-5) but overall duke was 24-3 and virginia was 19-8.

if you look down the ap rankings, every team had at least 20 wins going into this week, and the rankings are pretty close to what their records are. if you switched duke with any other 24-3 team in the country, with the same rpi of #1 (computers don't care what name is on their jersey), they would be ranked right about the same.
