Shots are irrelevant to an extent. Steph took (and made) a lot more threes than Melo I believe. With that said, I think Curry is turning into a star player in this league, he should be fun to watch in the coming years. He won't be a superstar, but he will definitely be a piece to build around. Kid can stroke.

irrelevant?
people talk about melo being a great scorer and that shows just how inefficient he is....guey was 10-26 but at least he got his 35 right?

Yes, irrelevant TO AN EXTENT because of free throws and threes. I'm not saying Melo's stat line was efficient by no means.
Anyways, are we even talking about the most impressive total of the night? Fukkin Tyson Chandler hauled in 28 boards. That's extremely impressive as well.

Let's say Dwight and Kobe each shoot 6-10 from he field but Kobe has 14 points compared to Dwight's 15. Dwight also shot 3-20 from the free throw line and Kobe hit 2-2. Dwight would have the more efficient night because he had more points per shot?

if you wanna get stat geek, you look at points per possession shares
so if you use up a possession to feed the ball to a guy that got fouled and went 0-2 from the line. that was a wasted possession as far as efficiency goes.
what I like about this as well, is that it gives credit to the guy that got the "assist" when a guy got fouled on a play. That won't show up on a traditional stat sheet.

I've honestly never even heard that stat before but I don't know if that measures individual efficiency as much as it does for a team. Anyways, it's not a big deal, I was trying to say that Melo had a decent game as well. That's the second game in a row Curry has posted some high point totals and his team lost.

Its a stat I use in my college hoops model program. to make it simple without giving away my proprietary mix and algorithms
in the above example the shooter that got fouled and missed the free throws-sucked
the guy that passed him the ball to get the shot attempt and ft attempts-did well
in any event. maybe i'm over thinking.
shots taken might be irrelevant

No, I obviously agree with your logic, but that stat has nothing to do with a player scoring a certain amount of points by taking a certain amount of shots compared to another player's total.
