Who made the Best/Worst off season move MLB?
Im gonna say the cheap ass Wilpons of the Mets.
The let Dickey go over a few million (which he donated the
difference already nice move) We got a 23 yr old catcher
with bad knees and torn ligs in his hand kid had 66 games in the
minors but over blown power stats because he played in jet steam
Vegas (trust me the ball carries huge I played there) Dickey is
really changing the face of the knuckler with his speed changing
no one threw 82mph knuckler. He will be awesome for years still.
I mean he won 20 with the Mets with the pig pen blowing at least 5
games after he left and low run support. The thing about Dickey is
90 % of his starts are quality starts thats huge he had 2 big quality
start streaks. Dickey would have led a young met staff all able to pitch
over 500 Niese got 25 mill last yr and shows he is becoming a force.
Gee came into his own last year before injury took him out when he
was pitching at his highest level. Harvey and believe me on this isnt far
from a Strasberg type pitcher kid has it all and a head for pitching.
Wheeler appears to be the next big thing for the Mets when he comes up.
WHY TRADE DICKEY?????? They could have made a run off top pitching ala
    Oakland A's. GFY Wilpons!

Dickey was a perfect fit for the Mets. He will get shellacked in the AL east. Poor guy.

Russell Martin for the pirates seems pretty stupid for them. If you made a list of aging vets the pirates wasted relatively small amounts over the last 10 years it really adds up. They could have saved that money and got a BIG free agent every 3-4 years had they not wasted money on the Barmes, Barajas, and martins of the world. Last time they got any value from old "cheap" free agents it was Reggie sanders, Matt stairs, Kenny loftin ect in 2001 or so

Royals off season was a total sh*thole

They traded to get to pay Santana 12M, they gave Guthrie a 3/25 deal when a host of other picthers who were just as good if not better smaller deals. To compound everything they dealt away a top ranked major league ready prospect to the Rays to acquire Shields who, while a good pitcher, is only signed for two years.

so they Basically morgaged thier future to climb up to being a bad team instead of a horrible one.

Interesting post. The have a nice core including Alvarez, Walker, and Jones, McCutchen. How you give up on Joel Hanrahan is beyond me. I agree with you overall, but I think pitching is what they need. Snatching AJ Barnett was an out-of-the-box move that paid off. It appears they may wait again to see how the season progresses, but my guess is they are cheap, cheap, and cheap. That's why the go for outdated players and its a shame.

              good observation!

The Cubs got some interesting pieces...but 1)the play in the same division as the Reds and Cardinals and Brewers, ALL who are a lot better than them, Pittsburgh probably is too, and 2)they still have Soriano in Left, Stewart at 3rd and no one in the closer role you can trust. they won lose more than 100 this year, but probably 90

Well, the Cubs aren't really competitive and they know it. They dont have much on the roster that will be part of the next truly competitive team (outside Castro, Samadzjia, Rizzo and Vizczino), this year they will in reality be testing some of the prospects that have like Vitter and Jackson and looking to flip Garza and signings Baker and Feldman into something at the deadline.

With Soriano with just 2 years left on his deal he may be traded too, by the time the trade deadline rolls around he will be owed about 22M, if the Cubs are willing to pick up 12-14m of they a team should see enough value in him at that price to part with a prospect also.

yeah they have a decent core, and some stud arms a year or two away in the minors.

Hanrahan was expendable, they got him for nothing, he served his purpose and wasn't worth paying when they could replace him with Grilli, who actually had better stuff last year. if you look back over the years, the Pirates almost always seem to have a pretty good closer, but what the fok does it matter if you don't even have a winning team? Why pay a closer for a year you expect to go 62-100 or 80-82?

they are just horrible at evaluating talent by and large. They've managed to unload pricey vets at the right time, but they always seem to get highly touted prospects back that don't pan out. Their top draft picks for years and years turned out to really really suck or just be mediocre MLB players. 90% of their Free agent signings end up being the worst players in the league.

the last two seasons they've even tried to trade for "help" by the deadline because they were making a playoff run, but those guys ended up sucking too.

at least they are finally spending on the draft and locked McCutch up

The Red Sox were very close to making a huge mistake, but thankfully Napoli's contact was voided and he only ended up with an incentive laced one-year deal

Sox did make a nice deal to get Hanrahan, I applaud that.

Jays: Melky Cabrera $16Mill 2 years (Worst)
Sox: Shane Victorino $39Mill 3 years (worst)
Yankees: Kevin Youkilis $12Mill 1 year (not bad but always interesting to see a Sox go to Yankees)
Astros: Carlos Pena $2.90Mill 1 year (Best)
Japan: Nyjer Morgan $1Mill 1 year (Best, it's a good season when Morgan is not in the Majors in the U.S)

Ill add to this and Say watching Dice K leave definitely did not hurt this team..........Should be much better then last year, as they couldnt get anything going at the same time last year, 1st closers blowing games, then starters, then couldnt hit.......
