    By Eric PincusFebruary 2, 2013, 7:06 a.m.

Sad news for a former Lakers All-Star. Nickey Maxwell Van Exel, the son ofNick Van Exel, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for murder in Texas on Friday.
The 22-year-old was found guilty Thursday of shooting Bradley Bassey Eyo in 2010.
Nick Van Exel was selected by the Lakers with the 37th overall pick in the 1993 NBA draft.
Before the arrival of Shaquille O'Neal andKobe Bryant in 1996, Van Exel was the team's leader and go-to player.
Van Exel played with the Lakers until 1998, then was traded after an All-Star season for Tony Battie and the draft rights to Tyronn Lue.
He is currently on staff with the Atlanta Hawks in player development.

I attribute the high crime amongst black males to being brought up in poverty with no father in their life...oh wait

His name is very odd. Most killers have a "Lee" in their name.

Why do states even hand down 60 year sentences? Forget that, 25 years should be the max if the court/jury/public sees more than 25 years is needed the death penalty should be imposed. Prison was meant to be a place for corrective action training and readjustment to society not permanent human housing.

I'm glad he's going away for 60 years and the only thing that will get readjusted is his sphincter.
