Kwame Harris is due in court today on charges he "assaulted his former boyfriend at a Menlo Park restaurant during an argument over soy sauce and underwear.", According to the report.
The former 49er and Raiders offensive lineman is charged with felony counts of domestic violence causing great bodily injury and assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury in an the alleged incident which occurred Aug. 21 of last year.
The alleged victim, Dimitri Geier, is also suing Harris for assault, battery, false imprisonment, negligence and both intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
The suit claims Harris and Geier had been in a romantic relationship. Harris was to drive Geier to the airport but instead became upset when the two of them were at a Chinese restaurant and he poured soy sauce on a plate of rice.
Harris became angry and told Geier he would no longer take him to the airport. As the men left to remove Geier's belongings from Harris' car so that he could instead take a cab, Harris tried pulling the other man's pants down and accused him of stealing his underwear, according to the suit.
Geier claims he attempted to push Harris away but being that Harris was a good deal larger than him, he couldn't do it so he hit Harris three times in the face but Harris "seemed only to grow more agitated" and punched him in the face several times until he fell to the ground.
Geier was taken to the emergency room and surgery was needed to repair broken orbital bones and required a metal plate to repair the damage.
Harris' through his lawyer is pleading not guilty to all charges and states self-defense due to Geier throwing the first punch. The charges stem from Geier being the one severely injured in the altercation.
Harris was originally a first round pick by the 49ers (pick 26) out of Stanford. He spent his entire football career in the Bay Area. After his five year rookie contract was up, he was signed by the Raiders in 2008. He struggled at left tackle for the Raiders that season and was eventually benched in favor of Mario Henderson. That was his one and only season with the Raiders and his last in the NFL.
