Salt Lake City, UT--SBR's generous triathlon tournament is nearing the halfway mark and longtime and once frequent poster, GoldenGreek, continues to maintain his lead. While most of the focus will be on the leading finishers, elsewhere in the tournament, a remarkable story of personal triumph above all odds is gaining a large public following. Special poster, Seaweed, whose real name is seaweed, has been receiving thousands of calls, emails, and donations from individuals who were inspired by his story of perseverance, determination, and positive attitude. Doctors say that Seaweed suffers from a rare medical condition that has and continues to deteriorate his high-level cognitive functioning. An interview with his caretaker, The Giant, reveals that Seaweed hoped his participation would spread awareness for this life-altering disease, though doctors believe his to be the only known case.

"I told Seaweed that this is not a competition where everyone gets a first place medal. He seemed to acknowledge what I was saying, though I had my doubts. Naturally, I wanted to protect him and help him compete, but doing so would devalue my belief, that all people, regardless of their ethnicity or handicap, offer value to society."

Though Seaweed may not be competing in a traditional sense, his struggles to overcome life's daily hurdles remind posters not to take their lives for granted. Already, Seaweed's presence has inspired other special posters to participate alongside him. Milwaukee Mike, who will be keeping Seaweed company through the remainder of the race, is also using this event to help raise awareness towards fetal alcohol syndrome. When asked of Seaweed, how Mike's support made him feel, Seaweed responded,

"Mike give me hope. Mike make me believe all thing possible. Mike won poster of month."

And so, while the triathlon continues to wind down and posters eye the finish line, let's not forget the life lesson Seaweed has taught us. Let us all be thankful we are not him.
