Why are Hockey games so high scoring this year????

No real exhibition games or training camp. Offense up to speed more than defense. Plus seeing alot of penalties called it seems

we've only had three days worth of games, not sure that's an inclusive sample. Games will get tighter towards the end of the season.

Also think about it...goals tend to get scored when people are out of position. People are out of position when theyre tired. People are tired when they don't get enough time between games. 48 game season in not enough time = tired people = players out of position = goals.

Regardless of whether it just started, when these players play a game then have to travel (not get full rest) you better believe they wont be playing at 100% the next day... If you've played sports you'd know how it feels after game day (especially at a high level, contact sport)

Start of every season tends to be a bit high scoring no? Give it a month or two and you'll start to see those 1-0, 1-2 kinda games.

Since the start of the season (using a base # of 5.5) - 54% have gone over 5.5

7 of the 26 games have been either 1-0, 2-1 or 3-1

Not sure how that tired theory works on day 4 of a season.

Goals are, 95+% of the time, scored due to defensive mistakes, not offensive "creativity" or whatever. As much as the media loves to hype up offensive ability, defense (team defense mind you) is what governs everything in this sport. Top 4 defensemen are everything in this game. Thats why playoff games are much lower scoring games, because you have two good (relative to average) teams playing each other and they are good defensively, despite whatever offensive stars either team has.

No training camp and some players havn't played a game in many months will result in sloppy defense, which results in easy goals. In about 2 weeks, everyone should be playing better and sucking less so scores will drop

Same. I'm going crazy how I've been loosing. Not normal for NHL and me. Will get into form though, no doubt.
