CHICAGO BULLS - Guard Kirk Hinrich (11/11, right thumb surgery) is expected
to miss three months. Forward Michael Ruffin (10/28, sprained left ankle) is
    out indefinitely.

Chicago is 8-9, Philly is 7-10, meaning Chicago, record-wise isn't that much better. Also keep in mind in the last 10 meetings between these teams the road team won 7 times. Also Philly and chicago split the past 10 games 5-5. Wouldnt blame you for sticking with Chicago, just giving ideas for the other side.

Bulls aren't all that good a team, in the NBA who knows which team will show up. College is much better.

So I had the bulls last night and was clearly on the wrong side. The line at Pinnacle closed at -118, I had Bulls -130. Any insight as to why this was a bad bet, anyone? Don't see any indication of last minute injuries/changes.

                          Sinister,

Only thing wrong with it was playing it a little too early. As you mentioned you had the -130, it looks like the number fell across the board after lunch.

I guess my point is that I normally presume the earlier lines to be softer, and to the extent that the line moves away from my bet, I consider myself to be wrong. If I were generally beating the closing numbers I might agree with you..

Is this an assumption that I shouldn't make for the NBA? Are closing lines less accurate than openers, absent any injury news? (this seems to be what you are implying Mr. Dozer). It seems unlikely to me that this would be the case, but I am not an experienced (or successful) NBA bettor, so I don't know.

I have to say, just looking through those odds histories, they are very interesting. The swings for NBA are pretty large. Some of these lines, at some point, must not be sharp, but I find myself unable to identify the good numbers.

You have it right. The closing line is bet into shape. What I was saying is if you are watching SBRlines or a DonBest and you see that your book has -120 and most other books have -115, you can confident that the -120 isn't going to move against you. There is a good chance your book gets in line with the -115 depending on the book. If everyone was showing -125 to your -120, you might want to get that -120 there. In your case it looks like the line went down across the board until game time. If you had waited for the market to change you would have lost less.

Even looking at TheGreek or Bookmaker can help. Most other books won't move too far away on purpose in US sports.

Had 2 bad beats yesterday and a push off a 3 pointer form the knicks with a couple seconds left. Losses were Bulls and Lakers blowing a 15 point lead in the 4th quarter.
