Help! Computer problem- the blue screen of death?
Ok so its kind of weird, I have never actually seen the computer go to the screen but when I walk away for a few hours or so I will come back and it will be at the blue screen of death. I am on the computer right now it seems to be working fine. I have deleted a ton of unused stuff including every recent new installation. Still it goes to this blue screen and shows the following error message....The only way to get out of the message is to turn computer off and reboot....

Any help would be greatly appreciated? Suggestions?

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable Bios memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

restart your computer in safe mode, go into msconfig and see what start up applications your computer is running, if any seem off then delete it( this is in start up configuration) , if all fails a simple system restore will do you well

Dont take this as guaranteed to work, but when I get that, I have gone into safe mode and loaded computer that way, then you can do a system like set that goes back to a certain time, as your computer like automatically saves itself so check that, think its called system restore but double check and make sure its something about like going back a day back or even 5 or so hours and that has always worked for me

Ill try that the next time it does it,

I just find it strange how the computer is working fine now I have been on it over an hour and a half. I am on the internet not running slow. No problems at all...

But if I go to bed and leave it on I will wake up and it will likely be that screen- its like it has something to do with the screen saver or something???

ive actually heard of this sort of stand by virus, learned it in high school, but this kind of virus would make your entire desktop a link to a porn site in general, yours seems more of a device driver malfunction , possibly when your computer tries to put itself to sleep it reaches a error, hard to diagnose not there tho

on side note, my laptop is old and piece of crap, but last 2 days now it will connect to my private network fine, and then randomly it will then lose connection and then when you connect it will just say connecting and not do anything. now what is crazy is other laptop is 7 feet away from wireless router like other laptop and it has perfeect connection. do you know what is going out with this Until?

other day at girlfriends parents i tried to connect to the network there and messed around with some network settings and not sure if that could have been it as dont remember what i did.

                    any ideas?

any anti virus software is a pathway to getting a virus,
basically what a antivirus software does it before loading the script to connect you to a certain web page the software navigates through the site including everything inside of it and it will then notify you if it finds anythnig harmless, when your not running one you will only absorb the cookies from the certain page your on, not the entire web page in full.

provided you understood this when your working without a virus software your only exploring maybe even a 1/2 % of the webpage, the main pages are protected the most from attacks viruses will hide in emails and sub areas of a site, the virus software will explore the entire web site Resistance and any new virus it may come across it will absorb thus giving you a new virus in a cookie stored on your pc that it dosent even recognize

lesson clear cookies daily, set system resotres, and please if your using a virus software it better cost over $50

stronger connect card? if you get a signal and it keeps loosing its connection the DNS server isnt linking the signal fast enough, do a few pings with both laptops and see if the time varies

is it just at the house or do you have connection problems everywhere, as i said earlier you might need a new airport card/ connect card, which will run you more than the laptop is worth

No worries, this is not a virus. This is a "stop" error issue and can usually be corrected.

                                                Hello Spoon-

I am not a computer genius- but No I have not recently added anything to this computer although it should be noted that I am not the only one who uses it... Doubt anything was added at all..

I do have Norton Antivirus as stated before it has Virus Protection, Updates Firewalls and Virus Scans (no viruses found on today scan)

I used Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3

Comp is HP Pavilion AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ 1.99 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

Le me guess, are you using Sygate Personal Firewall? Also, this only happens when you try to resume (wakeup) your computer from standby or hibernation, correct?

It doesnt tell me the name of the firewall.

but no it did the message earlier when I was surfing SBR Forum (after posting this). It took 2 and a half hours of me being online and it just all of a sudden went to the blue screen.

Most of the time I dont sit on here for 2 and a half hours so it appeared to be randomly going to the mssage...

Its not persay from trying to come out of a screen saver because when I walk in the error message is up on the screen before I try to move the mouse or anything...

Are you using a built-in firewall - one that is part of a router? There should be a task bar icon of the firewall (lower right-hand side) near the clock so you are alerted when activity takes place. If you see the icon, just open it up or right-click to get the software name. The reason I need to know is because there are several causes for a "stop error" to occur and certain firewalls on XP have been known to cause a lot of these problems. I just want to eliminate this as a cause. If it's Sygate or BlackIce that is most definitley going to be the problem. if not, it's more than likely it's a driver problem and at that point you want to make sure your drivers are updated by visiting HP and entering your model number.

I’m off for now, but just to let you know, I did a little research because I was unfamiliar with one of the parameters you mentioned and my research did not find any mention of it other than someone who had a similar issue and it was never resolved. However, this particular stop error sounds like it might be a memory issue. Since other people use the computer, ask if anyone added memory or any hardware for that matter before playing around with anything else. Memory can also go bad and causes these problems so if you have more than one stick in the system, I would take one out and see what happens. If the problem persists, put the memory stick back in and try removing the other stick and see what happens.

Also try an make sure your PC/Laptop is not overheating by cleaning any fans with one of those high powered air sprays.
