#36It's possible if he doesn't get a head coaching job elsewhere and he thought he had a shot at Garrett's position in the future.Comment -

#37Jerry Jones wants so bad to be a football guy. They need a coach like jimmy Johnson who took no shit from the drama queen players and demanded hard nosed play. As long as Jerry jones has his hands on the steering wheel the drama will continue and the pretty boy cowboys will flounder. Get a coach who can coach and get the hell out of the way and sit back and count your money.Comment -

On further reflection, I wonder if they can just let Lovie be HC and if Garrett would allow himself to be demoted back to OC/assistant HC? I mean, Garrett is no field general and Lovie is clueless about offense. Garrett was better as OC than HC and Lovie is a HC that has had nothing but blundering offenses.
Can you imagine if Lovie had Tony Romo starting in that Super Bowl instead of Rex Grossman? Heck, I've got Romo graded above Cutler and I tend to overrate Cutler. Granted, Romo is no Tom Brady or Peyton, but he's better than 2/3 of the starting QBs in the NFL. Plus, Romo is a MUCH better QB when he doesn't have to score 30 points to win games. Lovie has never had a QB as good as Romo and Romo has never had a defense as good as Lovie has built over the years (except the one year where Romo got his only playoff win). Lovie and Romo are a match made in heaven. Get it done, Jerry, if you want to win.Comment -

#40They have the talent to compete. Need better running game to take pressure off of Romo. The biggest piece missing is leadership and mental toughness. Put Jim Harbaugh in there and they would be in the Super Bowl in two years. Jason Garrett has zero presence. He challenges no one. He's got this pretty boy persona that doesn't draw the fire and passion out of his players. Once again, give me grit over glamour every time.Comment -

#41Jimmy Johnson is a huge fan of Jason Garrett. He's said it many, many times. If you compare his record for his first 2 years, he's almost identical where Jimmy's was at this same stage. I think his largest hurdle is having to deal with Jerry. I absolutely believe that JG will be a good HC. Just not convinced he'll have the chance to become that here.Comment -

#42As an Eagles fan I hate and despise the Dallas Cowboys, but I have to admit that Jason Garrett is a solid head coach, he did turn the season around, as you say he will not have the chance to go further and prove he will be a better coach because of idiot Jerry Jones, but you have to give kudos to the guy that he did an outstanding job as a coach when you have that kind of team owner behind your back watching every move, and let´s face it,neither Lombardi, Brown, Walsh, Parcells nor Bellichick could make a team win the Super Bowl with Romo as Quarterback.Originally posted by opie1988Jimmy Johnson is a huge fan of Jason Garrett. #43I bet Belichick, Walsh, Parcells could have won with Romo. You gotta understand, Walsh-Parcells-Belichick had the top defenses in the league when they won. People get obsessed with the QB position because that's what they see on magazine covers or ESPN or whatever, but defense wins championships. Look at Parcells, he won one of his rings with a backup, Jeff Hostetler. Joe Gibbs won 3 SBs with 3 different QBs and they all sucked.Comment -

#44Well, yes, maybe I over reacted, maybe Romo could win a championship with a great defense team as history has clearly shown us, we will never know, It´s just that I don´t see the choke artist getting it done.Originally posted by slacker00I bet Belichick, Walsh, Parcells could have won with Romo. #45or a rotting corpse! Jerry Jones is gonna have to die or sell out before these assclowns will ever be a contender again.Originally posted by TheCentaurDoesn't matter what they do as long as Romo is QB. #46Romo is better than half the QBs walking around with SB rings, maybe more. It's not about the QB. Romo is good enough to take a team there and win, but he can't do it if his defense is going to give up 28+ points. There are very few who can, I guess Brady, Peyton and Kurt Warner did it, but nobody else comes to mind.Originally posted by altieriflyersWell, yes, maybe I over reacted, maybe Romo could win a championship with a great defense team as history has clearly shown us, we will never know, It´s just that I don´t see the choke artist getting it done.Comment -

#48Yes,,,, he is not HC material,he is the Norv Turner, Wade Phillips, Jim Mora's,Marty Schottenheimer,ETC of the league all who could never deliver the championship but Smith could definitely bring the defensive side of a Championship team.........Originally posted by opie1988You honestly think he's going to be ok coming down to be another HC's DC?
He's got lots of choices to be a HC himself. No way he's coming here to work for some other head coach. That's not even a possibility.
With that said there are still teams out there desperate enough to give Lovie a HCing job, teams that just want to get above .500..........
Dick LeBeau was a failed head coach who admitted this to himself and will go down as the one of greatest DC's in history if not the greatest.....Comment -

#52they just spent the last off season stockpiling CBs and now they hired a DC whose defense devalues CB more than any other position. And it's like Monte's defenses were feared in college.Comment
