What is sharp action vs public

I assume public bets the favorites and sharps are are on the under dogs. Are books more afraid of public or sharp action. I've been betting for over 30 years and never knew.

more often than not, yes, but definitely not always

sharp action is action that is expected to win long-term, public action is expected to lose long-term, it's ultimately a subjective judgement

rec books are afraid of sharp action. The few smart pro books aren't because they can monetize the sharp action they get

rec books still have to be careful about overwhelmingly one-sided public action though, from a risk perspective, especially on things like NFL teasers

as we all know, +EV positions can still be bad if your position is inappropriately big
