Not talking about being drunk and it affecting your mind with picks & leans. I mean completely hammered where someone logs in and puts the entire balance or most of it on something they WOULD NEVER do when sober. Then they wake up and have a devastating new figure...

Must happen a lot in such a big industry with boat loads of degenrates.

Maybe in the casino...never been in a spot (at least in a long time) where I threw money on a game because of a hunch unless i have a freeplay to burn.

That is FBI propaganda. Less then 20% percent of games have even action on both sides.

Pat, I just mean day to day wins and losses between a player and a bookie, I guess I should rephrase the question along the line of:

How often does being completely hammered hurt the player.

being hammered makes people bet too much which gives bookies the edge.

As a recovering alcoholic/addict who now bets on sports for a living, this scenario gives me the creeping heebie jeebies. It is definitely incentive not to relapse.

Add alcohol and a huge chunk of discipline goes out the window. Mediocre ideas suddenly seem really great. I'm sure there are all kinds of people making extra-stupid bets based on drunk inspiration every day.

If I drank, my business would be fvcked.

Thankfully I never had any interest in betting when drunk. Though it's certainly an incentive not to start drinking again. Mostly because I know I'll end up sleeping through hours I should have been working.

I could just imagine some horror stories of alcohol wiping out bankrolls. Especially with someone drunk with friends who wants to be a showoff and put thousands on an event and look like a big shot if it hits, not aware of the surroundings, or how many zeros they put when submitting the figure, picking the wrong team, etc.

Its not necessarily about being hammered. For a lot, even the sober bettors, it is the mindset that if you start a day 0-2 and 0-3, you must make that money back. As a result, someone will make a play in haste, without a real edge, and put a lot more money on it than should be risked, and it spirals out of control. I am not a bookie, or a pro gambler, but I would imagine the books enjoy that kind of action.
