    Here's How to Fight Back
Go to senate.gov and send an email to your senators (you have two). Do not use four-letter words. Do not mention that you like to gamble. Tell them that you want them to vote no on the Internet gambling bill if it comes up for a vote. Say that you are upset about the SWIFT incident (see aclu.org). Say that you don't want the government snooping through your bank records. Get your friends and family to send emails too. If they think the public is upset about this, they'll back off. The last thing politicians want in an election year is angry voters.

Great idea Cyclone. If they get enough emails expressing concerns, it could definatley put some pressure on them and make them think twice.

Latest word is that majority leader Sen Frist is going to try to ram this internet gambling ban through before the Aug 4 recess. God, I hate these republicans. They are not really republicans but power hungry politicians using anything to get them votes. Taking away our freedom was not part of the republican platform when I grew up.

I really don't think senators care about anyone's opinions. They are elected to 6-year terms and are very difficult to defeat once in office regardless of public opinion. I actually think House members are more influenced by public opinion, since they are up for re-election every two years.

The bottom line, IMO, is if the bill reaches the floor it will pass easily, like 55-45. A couple of GOPs might oppose, but a couple Democrats might jump onboard to even it out.

I also agree with the theory that the more the media and so-called experts say "this won't hit the senate floor" the more I think a vote is imminent.

                More

Now that I think about it, it might help if those of you in other countries also put pressure on your governments about the US spying into the SWIFT system. (This is the international system for wire transfers.) If the US government successfully stops Internet gambling, everybody could be affected.
