    Hideki Matsui retires from baseball
After a illustrious career in Japan and ten seasons playing in the United States, Hideki Matsui will retire from baseball. Matsui who earned the nickname Godzilla had drawn some interest in free agency this winter.

The 38-year-old Matsui was a regular with the New York Yankees from 2003 though 2009. He later played with the Los Angeles Angels. Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays.

In 1,236 games stateside, Matsui compiled a .282/.360/.462 line and hit 175 home runs. Four times in his career he topped the 100 RBI mark.

As a Yankee fan I'll never forget his 2009 World Series MVP performance.

One of the greatest ever, he hit .615 with 3 homers.
      Flat out spanked the Phils.

Dude was clutch in the post season, hit .312 in 205 at bats.

Played the game right, never disgraced the game.

He's a rock star in Japan.

What I like is he is going out on his terms, some teams still want to talk to him, but Godzilla is like "I'm done, but thanks"
Love that when a player goes out like that.

Guy sure did fall off the map last year though. Probably a good move to set sail. Might be the best Japanese player to come over to the States and actually have success.

I had 100 on the phillies +1500 to win the world series in a futures bet. Got em before they got cliff lee. Matsui was a four letter word in my house after that.

                                Anyway, had a great career.
