As a Leafs fan i hugely second that. Furious about that....if they dont double up and do leafs/wings outdoors next year, ill never go to a game again.

revenues and profit are two different things.

Revenues go up in "records" in every major sports league. Just nature of inflation and increasing ticket prices.
How about add 10 more teams to the league, "record" revenues thru the roof....

duh. the numbers show that the league as a whole is quite healthy.

NHL revenue will hit $3.2 billion this year, a 50 percent increase in seven years since the lock-out wiped out a full season.

if those numbers are stagnant, or going down, there's a problem. but they aren't. revenues are up 1 billion in less than 10 years since the last lockout.

Problem with NHL is top 3 teams, (leafs, rangers, habs) make most of the profit and not enough revenue sharing to keep the bottom feeders sustainable.

well no, realistically it's all the Canadian teams. Canadian areas are packed nightly....Edmonton is just in a shitty deal with an old area and un-maximized profits but all canadian teams have extremely profitable markets. then you have DET, BOS, NYR.

Look at how much tickets have gone up, the highest increase of any of the Big Four leagues the last 5-7 years.
There's little room for growth because the NHL can't get a real TV contract.
NHL is lucky the US $ is so shit because all those Canadian teams with profits would be back to the dumps.

You think a can of coke, Big Mac or price of gasoline is going to be cheaper in 10, 20, 100 years?
Revenues will always go up as long as ticket prices don't go down or teams don't fold.

A Jan. 19 start would allow for a 48-game season, as the league played following a labor dispute that delayed the 1994-95 season.
Players are expected to discuss the proposal via conference call Friday and will probably make a counterproposal. NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in a statement that the league had made “a new, comprehensive proposal” late Thursday, but he would not disclose the details.
