You're thinking "Transition Tag". Unfortunately, the NFL screwed that one up. Nobody will touch that anymore.

Remember the Steve Hutchinson deal? The Seahawks did the Transition Tag, which allowed Hutch to shop himself around and the Seahawks had the option to match any offer. Well, Hutch went to the Vikings and got a deal, which included a "Poison Pill". It had a clause which said something like if Hutch plays 3 games in Seattle he gets some insane bonus. Well, if he plays for Minny, he doesn't get the bonus, but if Seattle picks up that contract he gets the mega bonus. Seattle couldn't match that contract under their cap. Amazingly, it went through arbitration and held up. Pretty weak that the NFL didn't step in on that insanity. In any case, now the Transition Tag is effectively extinct.

The Browns did the smart thing and included an escape clause. They can get out from under that contract without too much trouble. It's not like a first round QB type of contract which can send a franchise into a tailspin. Not to mention they knew that had Brady Quinn on the shelf. The Browns didn't break the bank for Anderson, considering market conditions, and now it seems rightly so.

Same think will probably happen to Cassell. He'll get a decent offer, but nothing like first rounder QB money, still wet behind the ears. Honestly, who would you rather have? To all those draft day crybabies bemoaning paying players that haven't proven themselves: where are you now? Weigh in on this debate!

well 1st off I think chances that he'll even play again definetly are not 100%. Im not gonna lie.... I LOVE Tom Brady. How do you you not? Unfortunately IMO I think he may have lost some of his drive for sucsess. He has 3 rings and just doesnt seem like the Tom Bady we saw in the old days... Still as good if not better, just not the same emotionally.

2nd... Matt Cassel is not goin to stay in NE unless it is 100% that Tom is done in NE or all together. He has been incredible for the past month. Getting player of the week, going back to back 400+ yard games... IMO There is no way that Matt Cassel sits on the bench as a backup ever again.

If I had to guess somebody will offer his a role as their starting QB to be the "missing piece for that teams puzzle". Im sure he'll do fine but I can almost guarentee he wont be "the missing piece" to any teams puzzle.
