Phillies Sign Reliever Mike Adams To A 3 Year Deal
Best 8th inning man available on the market.

Smart move and great signing by the Phillies. Adams in the 8th and Papelbon in the 9th is going to be as lockdown as it gets.

I dont get why people say the Phillies have "bought" all their talent. Theyve cleaned out their farm plenty of times to acquire Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay, Hunter Pence, Roy Oswalt, and many more. They're not just signing players left and right like the Yanks

Very solid reliever and the type of pickup that actually builds a winner.

Name another team in MLB that has a guy like Adams in the 8th and and Papelbon in the 9th.

Trading for players and signing players are different?

Well trading for players that are already under contract using your minor league prospects is different than, say, overpaying for a free agent and inflating the market and causing jealousy and upsetting the pay scale of your team.

Adams velocity has dropped 2MPH over the last two years and over 1MHP last year; his strikeout rate and swinging strikes have dropped with them.

6M a year for a 35 year reliever with decreasing velocity isn't a terrible deal, but far from a move that will make a huge difference.
