This loss was devastating for Notre Dame in more ways than one........ it will prevent them from getting the 7th win (assuming an ass beating from USC) and they will now finish 6-6. At 6-6, they will only be eligible to a bowl if a 7-5 team isn't available. That means those 7-5 MAC teams, Sun Belt teams, and other lower tiered conferences must be selected over Notre Dame.
Everyone assumed that with todays easy win, they were headed to the Gator Bowl...... now, with losing who knows..........
From the NCAA rules:
30.9.2.1 Exceptions - 12 Game Season. During each year in which an institution is permitted to participate in 12 regular-season football games, an institution with a record of six wins and six losses may be selected for participation in a bowl game if that institution is a member of a conference with which the bowl organization has a contractual affiliation, and there is no other team in that conference qualified for selection per Bylaw 30.9.2. If the conference with which the bowl is affiliated has no other institution that is qualified for selection or a team with a 6-6 record, the bowl may invite a team with a 6-6 regular-season record from another conference with which it does not have an affiliation only if there is no other team with a 7-5 record available in the Division I FBS. Additionally, a bowl game without a conference affiliation may invite any team with a record of six wins and six losses if there is no team with a 7-5 record available in the Division I FBS. During a season in which an institution competes in 13 regular season contests, the institution must establish a record of seven wins, six losses or better to qualify for bowl selection.

As soon as the announcers made reference to Syracuse being outscored in the 4th quarter something like 96-20 I knew the Irish were doomed.
What an embarrassing loss.

I am a long time fan of Notre Dame. I am ashamed to watch them play this way with such a watered down schedule. I do not know what is wrong. I don't think it is all Weiss' fault and he will not get fired. However it is very disappointing and I wish I knew how to fix this problem.

Weis= worse coach in college. I am an Irish fan also. This guy sucks ass. Made a thread about this a few weeks back. I truly believe this guy is the worse in college. Willingham is better than this guy. Notre Dame better fire this fvck and Go get Mariucci.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame football players were pelted by snowballs from fans sitting in the student section during their loss to Syracuse on Saturday.
"To throw snowballs at their own team, I didn't think that was a smart thing to do. I guess [they thought] it was funny," defensive tackle Pat Kuntz said after Syracuse upset the Irish 24-23.
South Bend was hit with about 10 inches of snow Friday. While the field had been cleared before the game, there was still snow along the fringes and in some areas of the stands.
Fans at first threw snow in the air, but then quickly switched to tossing snowballs toward the Notre Dame sideline. Defensive lineman Ian Williams got hit in the helmet, defensive end Ethan Johnson was struck on the left cheek and a St. Joseph County police officer on the sideline looking into the crowd got hit in the chest. An NBC camera man also was a frequent target and several snowballs reached the field, although none landed near where play was occurring.
When the Irish defense held a meeting on the sideline, injured linebacker Brian Smith stood on a bench to try to shield his teammates. But when a snowball hit Kuntz, he stood and faced the crowd and appeared to challenge whoever threw it to come down on the field.
"I was pretty mad about that, but whatever the fans want to do," Kuntz, a senior who was playing his last game at Notre Dame Stadium, said flatly.
At least one fan was seen being led away by police.

First of all ND is sucking at this thing called recruiting. Also, I think CW sucks at developing players...he's good at coaching not developing...
ND academic standards are very high...translation, really hard for the football team to extend to scholarships to kids who don't know how to do hw or read

pc- you're way off on the recruiting. Notre Dame has been in the top 10 in the country for recruiting in the last 3 years. Thats why alot of people are saying they should keep Weis on for recruiting but fire him as head coach.

Weis is a greedy SOB who should have just stayed with NE and he would have gotten an NFL job. But he had to grab the first head coach position he saw at a bad situation with no college coaching or playing background. He'll likely get another year, then wind up back in the NFL as a coordinator.
I say he's greedy because why would someone who makes millions a year sue doctors who did nothing wrong in his fat-reduction surgery? Did he need the money from that lawsuit, which I think he lost anyways. Here's a guy who weighs over 300 pounds by his own doing, selects a quick fix surgery that has risks, then blames the doctors when those risks come to pass.

so how come the kicker missed the fg? was he just bad or there was a gust of wind or bad snap?
