Golf and bowling are probably the most exact sport ''skill games'' in that you can't walk away after losing saying that I got robbed by the ref or umpire or a team mate screwed up and fumbled or smacked a guy in the head after the play was over but they aren't team sports either. In fact, some people call them skills and not sports.
The crux of my point is that in baseball you still have judgement calls by the umpires on strikes, balls, outs and fouls which in my opinion could become electronic making it the perfect sport but in hockey, basketball and football the ref is such an arbitrarial position where he can call a foul or penalty that doesn't have to be consistent with even how he sees the same foul or penalty being called a minute later.I get a kick out of ex jock hockey color commentators where they say it's overtime in the playoffs and the ref shouldn't call a penalty unless the guy mugged the other player.Look at when you watch a boxing match where the judges score exact opposite of what the other judge scores the bout and it's apparent that Ray Charles could see the fight was one sided. It sure isn't hard to be a boxing judge when you can just write anything down on paper and can't be questioned as to how you came about the score you gave. It's like something out of the 60's where you can give the guy more points because he had a better aura or you had better feelings where it felt good so I gave him the decision. He got the beejesus beaten out of him but I gave him the decision because he had more heart and seemed to try harder and used his full effort while the guy beating him senseless didn't put in a full effort.
Then you have errors. In baseball you can go games without a team having an error and you might have had a dozen circus catches during that time.I know it's easy performing in a non contact sport but in hockey, basketball and football emotions take over where you get alot more players goofing off being out of position and too worried about talking trash with the guy playing against you.
Experts before a baseball season starts will say that the Royals are absolutely terrible but when you come right down to it there really are no bad teams.Every team is capable of beating the other team and it's mainly who's the starting pitcher and who may have a better power hitter or two that makes you win a game by the slightest of margins.Look at especially college basketball and football where there is absolutely no chance a heavy underdog can beat a powerhouse.Playing the money line on tiny bets with baseball is the most fun and enjoyable bet in sports because on a good percentage of the bets you are in the running to win and you have hope.
Yesterday on HGTV televised horse racing this expert commentator said the Dubai????whatever the horses name was the greatest horse that ever raced at Calder and the other 8 horses shouldn't have even shown up to race because it was a lock and the horse was lucky to finish 4th.Horses are animals and when they feel like performing they do and when they don't feel like it they don't show up.It's like they are all Randy Moss's.If it's 100 degrees like it was yesterday some horses don't even want to be outside let alone race. Now there is a sport where they shouldn't even have expert commentators because you can know everything about horses and racing and you still can't predict squat. It's a crap shoot of the first degree because there are too many variables involved.
Yup,baseball is the purest sport and it may be boring but it should be given more respect by bettors who tune it out.Even the sportsbooks say it doesn't attract much action and that right now they are chomping at their bits waiting for the 1st NFL pre season game in just 3 weeks.
