    NFL: "Don't hit our quarterbacks"
The NFL has levied a total of $100,000 worth of fines against the Minnesota Vikings defensive line for a few roughing the passer penalties incurred last weekend.

We constantly hear about $7500+ fines for these penalties. I think the league is in overdrive mode right now with them since Tom Brady went down, one of their marquee model boys. Getting outrageous. Why not take away the sack entirely to avoid ANY contact?

    Source: Star Tribune
Defensive end Jared Allen got a $50,000 fine for two hits on Houston quarterback Matt Schaub and another $25,000 for a hit on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers

Why not, though. I mean, it's clear the NFL really doesn't want quarterbacks going down, or else these ridiculous and unprecedented fines would not be a routine occurrence. You can't hit a QB anywhere really anymore.

Good question. It'd be nice if it was added to the old retirees fund for the guys that played years and years ago that don't have the same benefits or resources as the players nowadays do, or some other kind of charity for kids or something. But knowing the NFL they most likely keep it for themselves.

That's lame. It's a contact sport. I understand personal fouls or unnecessary hits, but this is becoming the National Cupcake League.

It's a changing game. Defensive players are bigger/stronger/faster than ever before, not to mention the complexity of the defensive schemes. The NFL is just trying to keep QB injuries at roughly the same pace as 30 years ago. Who seriously wants to see the #3 QB on any team starting any games? The NFL is just trying to maintain the high level of competitiveness and entertainment we've grown to love throughout the history of the game.

Did you actually SEE the Allen hits?

Definitely looked like intent to injury and he tried to make it look like an accident.

I agree the rules are getting annoying, but this didn't seem like an overreaction to me.

Twice he led with his helmet straight at the kneecap, clear intent to injure.

Again they can always take a knee or slide. There is rules in place...

next thing you know there will be two hand touch rules on the QB...and no more ELI MANNING superbowl passes

Take a knee or slide after they have thrown a pass in the pocket?
