I'm not really sure how people can say the Grey Cup is shitty football, but at the same time spend their Saturday watching games like Florida-Citadel.

It's pretty split. Among those who are actually sports fans, its generally viewed as a somewhat big day, because people sort of view it as needing to match the Superbowl. Canadians like to have our own things, and making a big deal of it the way Americans do the Superbowl makes us feel better. Even non football fans, but guys who like other sports, tend to tune in I think. But, it doesn't get the "EVERYBODY is watching" feel that the Superbowl has. Wives and kids are much less likely to watch it than their American counterparts in regards to the Superbowl.

Just my view from my experience, others may view it differently.

brocker, this game is being played 12 miles from my house.. montreal has been crazy this weekend here. streets are blocked everywhere and everyone is going crazy here. montreal is no baseball town, but it really is a big football town.. they love their football here.. an NFL team would do good here.. the place will always be full.. if they win Grey Cup, there might be riots here after.. i haven't seen this city go this crazy in a long time.. everyone has grey cup fever here.

Nicky makes a good point here, some cities are much more CFL crazy than others. Montreal is definitely big on the Alouettes, whereas the Argos and TiCats always struggle with grass-roots support. Go to Regina or Winnipeg and it's even more intense than Montreal, because there's nothing else to do there. No NHL, no nothing.

brocker, late NOV, still no snow on ground.. this is rare for canada.. not one snowfall here yet.. brocker, i could never go near the stadium now. it would take me 2 hrs to get there and 3 hrs to get out with the traffic and all.. 65,000 fans.. no thanks.. it's in a bad area the big O.. in the east end, and poor area.. not good for a place to put a stadium.. not much parking there and small streets.. brocker, i'm not a big rock fan like you, so i dont remember concert.. never heard of that incident.

I'm farther west than that... can't see the stadium, the view's blocked by an hotel. Wish I could see it though, I went there so often as a kid.

I can't stand the CFL... we're always playing the same teams... and the whole things looks and feels kinda second-rate, like junior hockey.

Will probably watch the first and last 5 minutes of the game.

i haven't been downtown or around the big O this week but i saw from the news this game is a huge deal. i'm surprised to see so many cowboys going. nicky, i'd rather a montreal riot than the alternative, a bunch of cowboys on horses stampeding down the streets. they may take over our city.

i'm not too much of a fan at all though, never was. i got invited to a grey cup party, and i'm not even going because i'd rather go to the gym. i wish i knew why i didn't care about CFL... i'm even watching the MLS finals right now.

I used to work in a small office right next to Schwartz - it's pretty funny to see the tourists lining up *every* frickin' day, no matter the weather. During the summer, the lineup can get 15-20 meters long, blocking the entrance of the next 4-5 shops.

Delicious stuff, but you can have the very same sandwich on the other side of St-Laurent @ Main Deli, minus the lineup and lack of proper dining space.
