this just in: peyton manning is 16th best QB in the nfl
because he's got the 16th highest quarterback rating!

The 2008 NFL Postseason Player stat leaders on ESPN. Includes stat leaders in every category from passing and rushing to tackles and interceptions.

do you see how ridiculous a statement that is? no way that manning is not in the top 3 qb's in the nfl, if not the overall best

you guys who are dropping some stat equation about defense are missing the obvious fact

after 10 games of play, it is clear that the titans at 13.1 pts per game given up are the best D in the nfl

Why would anyone use that stat to measure QB performance anyway? Football Outsiders has him 3rd in DYAR.

5, if you took your dislike for me out of the equation (which i could care less about btw), you would see that my analogy of the defensive equation in the other thread is quite literally a straight comparison to quarterback rating

it is ridiculous, and deep down inside in places you dont talk about at your pilates class, you know i'm right

                    You are

                    a) making a straw man argument

                    and

                    b) using stats that are not very predictive.

If we had football-style penalties on SBR, you would get a 10 yard penalty for fallacious reasoning and a 15 yarder for unnecessary stupidity.

We're talking about Peyton Manning here, he's had to deal with Clark being out or banged up, Harrison and Addai dropping everything under the sun as if their hands were made of jelly; still the guy is finding ways to win and even win on the road against the top ranked D in foots.

With Brady sidelined all year, Manning IS the best QB in the league regardless of whoever has thrown more TD's.

Actually hoopster you have a tendancy for making lots of posts with lots of predictions and statements....then months later when one happens to come to fuition you bump it up and claim you're a genius...What about all the other threads????

I'm guessing we wont see your thread about USC in the National Championship game bumped anytime soon by you.

Also every time you come on and toot your own horn.....you mention that you're not the only one that thinks it...you always say "even JJ-gold thinks so".....since when has JJ been a handicapping guru? or a sports guru for that matter?

And finally for the link you posted above...

IT IS A STAT SHEET WITH QB'S PUT IN ORDER OF QB RATING.
that doesnt mean anyone thinks that he is that far down the list in terms of quality of quarterback, but it does mean his QB rating is that bad

Are you implying that Matt Ryan has better wide receivers than Peyton Manning?

No way Peyton Manning is the best QB this year.

What I am implying (correctly) is that Matt Ryan has had a great rushing attack alleviating the pressure off his shoulders and allowing him to play action his rookie butt off. Fact is, defenses don't even adjust for Joseph Addai and can simply play the pass all day long- not the case in Atlanta.

Defenses could have two linebackers in the box and Addais stats would still look like this after 4 quarters: 21 rushes, 46yds.

But you said Peyton Manning is the best QB this year. Why would the best QB need a great running back or wide receivers that don't drop balls? He should make them play better if he was a great QB.

It's all relative. QB's are far less likely to have MVP numbers without any semblance of a running game for obvious reasons. Not only that, people overestimate Manning's receivers due to their previous greatness. Fact is the only reliable guys he really has right now are Wayne and Gonzalez (when he holds onto the ball). The others have underachieved and had several drops.

some of my more memorable ones:

"florida and usc to the title game" posted 7 wks ago, i took heat for both teams and now everyone is on florida's jock, i posted this right after they lost to ole miss

"texas and penn state to lose" when they looked like juggernauts

both happened, how fukkin smart was that?

"kansas to beat memphis in ncaa touney final" BEFORE the ncaa tourney even started, ppl told me kansas was the weakest #1 seed,

they were wrong, i was right, how fukkin smart was that?

"boston as big underdog will beat lakers in the series"

you can only imagine that 7 out of 10 posts disagree with me

                                    how fukkin smart was that?

                                        Holy. Fukc.

This was the biggest jump I've ever seen.

Just so everyone knows, he came up with this argument after we stated how Pittsburgh was a better D than Tennessee based on DVOA. That's all that was said. He then jumped to the conclusion that because we used DVOA to evaluate defenses, we would also use QB RATING to evaluate passers.

Funny enough, as Sinister Cat pointed out, DYAR rates Peyton 3rd. "Peyton Manning is atleast top 3"

I mean, if DYAR had Peyton ranked 16th and he had used that to dismiss using DVOA to rank defenses, it's STILL a straw argument, but atleast it would've been within the realm of most retarded arguments I'm used to.

Holy ****ing shit. I don't say this lightly: This was the dumbest argument I've ever heard. I think it blows most of daggerkobe's out of the water. I don't even want to think what kind of a mind it must take to actually rationalize that argument.

Please don't tell me that someone is putting Matt Ryan in Peytons class??
The O-line is finally rounding into form and so is Peyton...7-0 ratio & over 800 yds last 3 weeks!! This is the NFL..there is no Kobe or Jordan saving the day by themselves or CC Sabathia single-handedly putting a team in the playoffs! This is a team game and you can only do what you can do!! John Elway is the only NFL athlete I've seen that could put a shit team talent wise in the SB off his talent alone!! Of course the AFC in the 80s-mid 90s was minor league football and they got crushed everytime they got there until Terrell Davis & a defense came around!!
I don't think anyone in the AFC wants to see the Colts in the playoffs this year especially if Sanders is healthy!

It's not a fair assesment Hoop, because the QB's statistic can be affected by the offensive line not allowing enough time to pass the ball, and they must rely on wide receivers to make the catch. The defensive statistic would be more accurate, because it pertains to a group rather then just one person, and the defence is self reliant in terms of avoiding injuries, and breaking through to make the tackle.

I hate Peyton Manning and his grotesque melon.

Akili Smith, Jamarcus Russell or Alex Smith? Which one had better stats than Peyton Manning as a rookie?
