#36A friend of mine is a blackjack dealer and she can't stand it. You need to have thick skin to work in the industryComment -

#37She needs to find a different line of work. That or become a floor supervisor. I called around to someone who deals poker in southern California. He said the average where he works is about 30 an hour. He's been there awhile and works on swing shift which I understand is the busiest time in the poker room.Originally posted by Jrod124A friend of mine is a blackjack dealer and she can't stand it. #41Dealing poker would be good I don't think I want to deal anything else. I don't think I ever been on a cash game whee people arn't tipping at least a dollar when they win a hand. A dollar a hand and how many do you deal in a shift?
Tournaments may be a bit less but around here most tournies have a dealer appreciation add on and then we tip when we win the tournament as well.Comment -

#42I'm assuming you're in the gap years between college and a career. I was in the same place a few years ago but I decided to teach English overseas instead of becoming a degen. You live like a rockstar over here. Granted, you make less money, but you can save about 60% of your salary. I've worked in Japan, but now I'm working in China. I rent a 2 bedroom apt in the middle of town, eat out 3 times a day, and still pocket $1500 US a month. All for about 4 hours of work a day 5x a week. There are definitely more strenuous jobs out there. The light workload gives me plenty of time to play poker online for supplemental income. Plus I'm a 2-hour bus ride from Macau if my inner-degen starts creeping out. Good luck in whatever you do!Comment -

#43i'm moving to cali to become a poker dealer myself already passed audition and interview...i'm a experience dealer in the midwest and all i have to say is we have the cheapest mofos living here who needs tipping lessons..winner211 if you dont mind wat cardroom do you deal at?...fr being a dealer myself and experienced playing in cali cardrooms i know dealers in cali make way more tips then where im at..Originally posted by Winner211I thought I would put my "2 cents" in....I am a poker dealer and part-time floorman at one of the bigger poker rooms in northern California and I make close to 100K a year....it's a career with many drawbacks however and not for everyone....I also know that working in other cardrooms like small ones in Nevada make considerably less than the amount we make here in Cali, but th cost of living here is pretty outrageous....and girls make a lot more than me...I got into dealing while in college at a small cardroom and worked my way up from there...most bigger cardrooms won't hire you unless you have at least 2-5 years of experience....if anyone every has interest in becoming a dealer or wants to know anything about it please feel free to ask....Comment -

#44there are nice parts of Miami where people have money, but most of it is shitty you are going by one little sample of people not by thw whole thing. There are people who can "wipe their asses with money" everywhereOriginally posted by MeatWadDoubt it. An average 3 bedroom cost a million plus here. In Vegas you could own four mini mansions for that. Smart people with money want to live in a tropical paradise, not in the middle of the dessert in a slimey tourist town built around the service industries on the money of poorly informed gamblers.Comment -

Stop generalizing about an area, ya sound ignorant.
Between Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami-Dade there is plenty of money down here.Comment -
