Mike D'antoni officially hired as Lakers new head coach
The Lakers, in a wholly unexpected move, announced Monday morning that they signed former Suns and Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni to replace Mike Brown as head coach.

The Los Angeles Lakers have hired Mike D'Antoni as their next head, sources told ESPN.According to the Los Angeles Times, the deal is for four years.
D'Antoni won't be available until later in the week, after he's medically cleared following knee replacement surgery, a source told ESPN.

Not surprised, time to pick up Lakers for the ol' fantasy team

Roll the ball out, let them play and Dwight can play defense under the hoop. Good fit.

Little surprising. An old team like this needs Defense to win it all. Dantoni must have really sold that he'll get the showtime going with his experience with Nash.

Pissing contest between Jerry Buss & Phil Jackson.

Too bad. I would've liked to have seen what Jackson did with the Lakers

Amazing. Jim Buss is going to catch a lot of flak if this doesn't work out.

I assumed Phil's return was a foregone conclusion. Apparently his demands were way, way out there.

fukkin prick got greedy when he sensed the desperation, so the lakers told him to fukk off for good!

sources said that the Lakers ultimately couldn't stomach Jackson's contract demands to return, which were believed to include a salary ranging from $10 to 15 million annually, significant say in personnel decisions as well as his eventual replacement along with the ability for the 67-year-old to skip selected road games.

You make demands like that, when you yhave no interest in the job. Knowing the Lakers wouldn't agree to any of that BS, Phil appeased fans and made Jim Buss look like even more than a tool than he is.

ONly thing that somehow seems ok with this decision is that nash has played for dantoni.

No defense equals no shot against OKC or Spurs in the playoffs, let alone Heat. Feel bad for Nash not getting a ring. As for the rest of the Lakers, meh.

i am tired of people saying they arent gonna win this way. Well they tried with mike brown who was a DEFENSIVE coach and that didnt work out. People arent paying to see the lake show play defense they wanna see a million points which doesnt work in that STUPID princeton offense that brown was running. So this is a perfect fit.

One does not exclude the other. Fans will get their million points a night but you can't beat Durant+Westbrook or Parker, Duncan and the gang by running and gunning. They will bury your ass in threes.

I'll take a team who gets easy dunks/layups over the team who relies on threes. The Lakers will be fine on defense with Dwight/Metta/Kobe and even Jordan Hill now. Their offense needs to be simplified and that's what D'Antoni will do. Easy baskets for Gasol/Dwight without this stupid Princeton crap.

Lakers offense was more than it was last year even with the Princeton offense, at least the 5 games they used it before he got canned. It was their defense that sucked, they quit, they got together and simply all laid down and let themselves get beat to prove a point. Now they have gotten what they want we will see what happens.

I predict a burial, I think Brown is a better coach than Dantoni, and that Brown should have been coach of the year with the job he did last year with that bunch of misfits he had. They won BECAUSE of the defense they played and the way Brown instilled it in them, not in spite of it.

You now have a bunch of crippled up old has beens trying to run an offense that requires you to run up and down the floor for 48 minutes. Unless a couple of these guys who are young and buried on the bench turn into dwayne Wade or Rose over night this thing is destined for failure.

Why do you thin Brown was playing a slow it down style/ I said it before all this shit went down, the problem wasnt their offense it was their defense, they were scoring fine they just werent stopping people from scoring.

But it will be fun watching the Lakers continue to crash and burn at every turn, this probably hurts the ATS side of things however, but they should still be a relatively easy fade just not the gold mine they should have been.

that's the word. supposedly the Buss' have been dying to get "showtime" lakers basketball back and they think Dantoni gives them the best chance. sure they might score 140 a game but they are gonna give up 150.

the problem D Antonis offense is, its all about SPACING the floor. so there is lanes to cut through, pick and rolls to run etc. and than the kick out for the open three. that is a huge part of Dantonis offense. the lakers have absolutely no three point shooting, so that's gonna be a big problem.

Nash and Dwight should excel incredibly though with the pick and roll

Lakers are the biggest name in basketball, and these are the two guys they decided to choose from. Unreal.

The Lakers will be fine on defense with Dwight/Metta/Kobe and even Jordan Hill now. Their offense needs to be simplified and that's what D'Antoni will do. Easy baskets for Gasol/Dwight without this stupid Princeton crap.
