ND would get destroyed by anyone who steps into BCS game. Notre Dame is a hype team with good D. People jerk themselves off every year hoping that specifically ND makes it for some reason and they never do. Half of their fans never went to ND, don't know anyone who went to ND, and aren't from anywhere near South Bend or Indiana for that matter. They haven't had a good program in almost twenty years since Lou Holtz era. This isn't Rudy people, this is real life.

The best current matchup for an even remotely enjoyable watching experience would be Oregon and KState. Why would I want to watch the most coveted game in college football be a 40-7 rout of Notre Dame?

ND beat Oklahoma by 17 in Norman.
KState beat Oklahoma by 5

ND beat Miami by 38 in Chicago.
KState beat Miami by 39 in Manhattan.

ND would have beaten Stanford, USC, and Michigan.
KState would have beaten Texas, Okie State, and WVU.

Why KState and not ND? No one can give a reason other than hatred of ND.

And for the record, I am not a ND fan.

K State has won practically every game comfortably, with only 2 wins being less than ten points and both of those were on the road. They have also never been behind in a game all year in the last 12 minutes. Notre Dame has needed to score in the last minute (including 2 OT games) against Purdue, Stanford, and Pittsburgh, all at home. As we know, Purdue and Pitt are not very good. They also barely squeaked by BYU, also at home.

I'm a big believer in that all that should matter is wins and losses, and 8 teams should play it out on the field to determine the champ, but as long as the NCAA is going to rely on this current dysfunctional system, style points are going to matter, and the fact of the matter is, when you need to pull out all the stops to beat someone like Pitt at home, and teams like Purdue, Stanford, and BYU play you to the wire, all in your back yard, you're going to be behind a team that has had every game in hand.

Winning is winning, and teams that win every game, regardless of how ugly it is, deserve a chance to play on the field to try and win it all. That's what sport is all about. The FCS has a 16 team playoff, but they don't go to bowl games that generate millions of dollars, so the NCAA doesn't get resistance. And why should only the "best two teams" play for the championship? One of the great things about team sports, is the chance for a team that earned a shot to come together as a team and beat a superior opponent. The undefeated 2004 Utah and Auburn teams deserved that chance, but remember, we're still only 10 years removed from locked in bowl games that saw #1 and #2 teams not even playing and "split" national champs. I still feel cheated that we were robbed of seeing unbeaten Miami play unbeaten Washington in 1991 in a battle of #1 vs #1, what a great game that would have been. Those were 2 great teams with passionate fan bases, but instead, both teams are referred to as '91 National Champs, like the other team never existed.

So even though your earlier statement of Notre Dame passing an undefeated K-State has been proven as incorrect, you still want to stick by it as reality? Let me explain to you how the system works, the BCS has a formula to determine it's BCS title game contestants. That formula is math based, which means that it is IMPOSSIBLE for Notre Dame to pass an unbeaten K-State in the BCS rankings that determine who plays.

So are you going to be like someone from years past who clung to the notion that the Sun revolves around the Earth? Or are you actually going to research your statement to see if in fact you're lauding a scenario that has 0% chance of happening?

Now if you want to say that the NCAA prefers to have Notre Dame play, that would be a statement worthy of consideration, and if you want to go down conspiracy road, and say that refs will be bribed when they play Texas, we can consider that while we chuckle, but the FACT is, if K-State wins out, they play in the title game, no matter what.
