SBR John - I really would like to know where SBR stands on what this bill if passed into law would do the industry.

IMO mass withdrawls would happen causing a lot of books a lot of trouble.

Might it be prudent to reduce some balances sooner than later?

I"m not John, but I think it would be best to get the word out to ignore this completely, if it does become legislation.

It is entirely unenforcable, -they may arrest five or ten people to make a statement-, but beyond that it is up to us if we allow ourselves to be intimidated. We should make a stance and ignore this. If the revolution starts here, so be it. In a society of predominantly cowards, what better group of risk takers to lead the way?

    Gamblers unite!

If they want war, they can have it. F*ck them.

I would love to agree with you but I can't Dark Horse.

The real problem with this bill is not you and I but Joe "Square" Public that will pull his money out for sure.

If you win at this you are the minority and the ability to win is paid for by the squares out there who have never heard of SBR.

Without those Squares who max out their credit cards and lose every year there is no way to pay those who win.

The question is not can they enforce it, they won't have to.

Well, let's get it out in the public that we're ignoring it. We have the power to get our voice out, because the internet unites us. Let's get it out in the newspapers and magazines. Let's sign a petition that we're ignoring this. Let's get a million names. And so on. In other words, let's make it a public fight.
Let's show the world the smallmindedness of these politicians. Right now, our voice is not being heard.

I've been looking into ways of civil disobedience for quite some time under this regime. This could be the perfect place to start. Why the hell not?!

I read a lot of Articles today that there is really no time for them to prepare for this issue this year. So I is looking like a slow moving procedure that might lose heat, since it is not everyones top priority. SO this can go on for years and years.

I know we can scare the daylight out of these conservatives, because bettors are from all political backgrounds.

Just knowing how bills are passed, etc...
It would take well over a year before anything happened with this.
Also, the public really doesn't give a damn about it - so it isn't much of a 'wedge' issue, so it's going to lose steam there.

The biggest problem, that I am aware of, is lobbyist money.
Obviously, since Vegas has become so corporate - they have TONS of lobby money on K Street. I am ignorant of off-shore companies and their ability to lobby in Washington - or the money they are using to do so (or any trade organizations, etc, that would lobby as an industry - or even if countries do this to protect their interests in online gambling).

Lobbying money is why this COULD go through - but I wouldn't count on it.

I know the Poker world is finally doing something by forming a REAL organization of players (unlike the 10 or so now that really are nothing more than 'fan clubs' at best) with reasonable dues. I forget the name of the big organization that is gaining steam, off of the top of my head, but it's gained a lot of traction and hype during the World Series and several of the 'big name' pros have joined and are working on getting this legislation tossed out.

I know it's a bit outlandish, but if punters in the US worked with that group, as well as the powerful card players - it'd sure make a louder statement.

It's crazy how this whole issue breaks down politically and the implications. I think it's too big to rock the boat and the Senate probably won't even vote on it for a long time... Plus, chances are, when they get around to it next session (maybe), there will be less Republicans and a few more "jumping ship" Republicans than there are right now... That's good news for gamblers.

You know you are so right about the lobbyists. Not only is Vegas present BUT the group that has kept this from ever getting momentum in the past is the Horse Betting Lobbyists who have been appeased strategically with this bill by being exempt.

If the bill passes the senate in its present state it could have a major impact on 2nd and 3rd tier books. Actually it will hurt even A+ books but they are able to brush off a 10%-20% drop in volume.

Our opinion is this could drop handle by about 15% if it passes in its current form and stunt growth to flat. We give it a 60-40 chance to pass the senate but it will probably be watered down even more than it already has been.

I agree that it will be a much revised bill by the time it makes its way to the senate but I feel like your number of 10-20% is at least 20% light.

Seeing as the US accounts for half of the revenue generated, from what I have heard, I think the lower tiered books will be sunk and the A+ books will have a major issue with the massive amount of cash withdrawn.

I look to you guys for how the books will react to this because if it does happen I don't think the words bail out will be mentioned at all.

Thanks for chiming in though man.

I can't see the Likes of Bodog Pinny etc letting this pile of crap through without one hell of a fight

With their financial clout they can afford a top legal team to challenge this ruling & I would then imagine that the bill will 'run out of time' fail to pass & hopefully be quietly 'dropped'.

You would think these politicians would have more important things to worry them like Iraq,Iran,North Korea etc.

But no they have the big evil of OnLine Gambling to deal with What a bunch of pricks :+angry2-9
