who is your favorite sports commentator of all time ?
nowadays i don't feel theres many good ones left at all. bill walton and chris berman i feel are absolutely brutal to listen too IMO

i think vin scully, don cherry, and bob uecker are probly the best ones out there right now. but, my favorite of all time would probly have to be jack buck or harry carry.

Chick Hearn is the best of all time IMO. Ever heard Chick
    Hearn call a game BBD?

Yep he did that in 1998.

If someone says Chris Berman they should be banned

I used to love Ken Singleton on Expos broadcasts. Don't know what he's doing now.

I used to love John Madden but he has lost some of his freshness.

Same with Bob Cole and hockey. He used to be the consumate professional but he has lost his sharpness in recent years. But if I had to pick a favorite, I guess I'd say Bob Cole in his prime.

                Mudcat,
I believe that Ken Singleton is doing work for the YES Network and even some radio work for the Yankees.

Howard Cosell is a winner no contest. What an entertainer. Also was witty which is something you don't hear much nowadays.

Extremely close 2nd Bob Costas because the guy is so intelligent and actually knows a ton about sports. He could have done the World Cup better than the idiots who covered it this year, and he has probably never called a soccer match before.

                Jack Buck a close 3rd

Yeah whoever was doing the World Cup was terrible. The
guys on the Spanish stations were much better.

And I don't even speak spanish but felt they brought
                  more excitement to the game.

"Hawk" Harrelson with the White Sox. He was hilarious yesterday - the plate umpire was about as accurate as the World Cup referees, and he said, "Belt-high, heart of the plate, ball one," as deadpan as possible.

John Madden. I know he gets a bad rap because of his "dufus" personality, and he has lost a lot with age, but I still love the guy. He's done a lot more to promote the popularity of the NFL than he's given credit, IMO.

Brett Jungblood. He's not a "true" commentator, but I've heard him sit in as a "guest commentator" during the WSOP the last couple of years, and this guy is just dynamite. Especially with Poker commentary just piss poor in general, this guy knows the game inside-out and can explain it so clearly, I feel my poker IQ rising just listening to him. Right now, he's in the game, winning WSOP bracelets and does commentary when he has the time, but I wish he could do more, because every moment with him at the mic is just priceless.

Harry Carey sounded like he was on crack cocaine

for you fight fans... Larry Merchant for HBO boxing can be absolutely hilarious (i always burst into laughter at least once after the uncomfortable silence following one of his comments). and bas rutten the former pride commentator is just classic. if you guys haven't seen his lethal street fighting video, go take a glimpse on youtube. the guy is a great time.

The best guy today for baseball is Bob Uecker, in my opinion.

From the past, my favorites were Red Barber, Gene Elston and Ernie Harwell. I'm very happy to see Elston finally get his due this year with the Frick Award.
