The pass they completed initially is a forward pass which makes that laterial which happened afterwards not returnable...

If you go to NFL.com and look up the rules in regards to laterals, there's nothing that says you can't advance a lateral after a forward pass.

I Just Looked It Up Dude!!! The Defense Can Advance It. Its Basically Like Recovering A Fumble. Your Wrong. The Refs Should Definately In On This One. Look At Penalty Yards For Pitt And Penalty Yards For Sd. Then Go Watch A Replay Of The Game. It Was Horrible I Didnt Miss A Play

If he's moving forward and flips the ball perfectly sideways the ball will continue to move forward. Physics.

OK guys....what about this one...

Remember in the 2000 season when a young Plaxico Burress caught a pass, fell down without being touched and then spiked the ball (forward) in celebration? Then a Jags defender picked the LIVE ball up and ran it back for 45 yards? Remember?

If you believe the Steelers game ruling is right, then this ruling on the Burress play should've been a dead ball when he spiked the ball forward and then a 5 yard penalty......

Instead, the Jags were able to decline the penalty and keep the return.....

I've been looking for a definitive rulebook citation and haven't found one yet....

And the fact that the ref didn't throw a flag or a whistle wasn't blown doesn't help the case. If it was an illegal forward pass, the ref would've blown the call dead right at that moment.

In that case you are just blind. And it was reviewed....thats why they have instant replay...b/c occasionally refs miss calls.
