Is gas shortages as bad as I'm seeing on TV? How dire is the situation?

Yes. It is worse then what you are seeing. At least in the part of Jersey I am in.
I am sitting in a line right now that is probably a mile and a half long. Very few gas stations are even open.Comment -

Waiting for gas and having trouble finding gas is a very small problem on the scale of things people here are dealing with. My area got hit the hardest and many people here lost everything including there life. Say a prayer for those people. I am fortunate.Comment -

Its getting alittle bit nuts. Power has been out since monday. I keep hearing reports about people stealing each others generators. Three hour lines for gasoline. It could be worse though.Comment -

. lines here in long island are crazy. gf waited in line for 3 hr and 20 min yesterday. her dumb ass didnt listen when i said to fill up sunday 
no power either finally got a room last night so have electricity and internet till about 12 this afternoon

I live in north jersey a town over from the meadowlands 15 minutes away from Lincoln tunnel & GWB. Gas lines are 2/3 hrs long & they are starting to limit it to $20.00 per car which is ridiculous! Price gauging at some places. Seen it as high as $5.49 cash $5.69 credit. Now they're talking about another storm for Wednesday/Thursday. Not allowed to bring your car into manhattan unless you have 3 people or better. Traffic is at gridlock through out the city and people are standing on line for 2/3/4 hrs just to get a bus in & out of manhattan/Brooklyn.
All & all I consider ourselves lucky (northern nj) compared to the devastation down south.Comment -

From Hoboken: It looks as though water finally receded. My friend was stranded in her apartment until the National Guard floater her out yesterday. Most of city still doesn't have electricity. The few of us with it have been allowing folks to charge their devices in front of our buildings with extension cords. ATMs might be coming back online today but haven't been available. The few stores open are only taking cash. Traffic was a nightmare Wednesday and yesterday.
My brother is a cop at the Jersey shore and is telling me that maps are going to need to be redrawn down there. He also says that they're keeping the body counts quiet for now. Many of the long-timers down there never leave during storms. They might have not made it.

Went out at 2am to get gas to see if it was better. Only three stations were open in the area and each had 2 mile lines.

I got lucky though was $20 max station, gotta find something open away from major highways. Guys driving out to Strousburg and Phillipsburgh are finding gas and no lines around mdnight.Comment -

attention everybody this IS NOT A JOKE im in my basement in freetown NJ and the water is still pouring into the room. the coast guard has targeted me and is purposely pumping the water down towards my house flooding me out. i went out to see what the reason was and a coast guard guy goes "oh here he comes where are his flippers"..........this is unclear what is going on i filled up my car last week and all my gas is gone i only have noodles left to eat and i havent showered in 5 days, there are dead mice floating all around me i cant go upstairs because they have a spotlight shining into my house they say that they "are busy working" and need to keep it on. ive tried rense.com and they are too busy to help me. help meComment -

Christie is doing it where you need to have odd numbered license plates on odd days and even numbered on even days to get gas. The lines are twice as long now.
