#40Nah, he meant losing. And he's probably spot-on. I don't doubt there are some who wager with stats and without emotion that lose, but I agree there probably aren't many.Comment -

#42Disagree. Plenty of people use stats but they use stats with little to no predictive value and even if they do use decent stats if they don't have a model it is very hard to quantify those stats and come up with fair value.I don't doubt there are some who wager with stats and without emotion that lose, but I agree there probably aren't many.Comment -

#44Yeah, but these are generally people who have an interest in sports and get a high from actually "gambling". Maybe I should've clarified more or maybe I misinterpreted what reno meant, but I think the sticking point was "without watching the games".Originally posted by donjuanDisagree. I'd probably classify myself as someone that attempts to use stats without a strong model where I have a tough time coming up with fair value, but I do it because I'm a gambler and I enjoy immensely being able to sit down and watch a football game with money on the line.
If there are people out there who do what I do and have no real concrete evidence that they have an edge, who don't get a high from gambling and just like burning money without receiving entertainment value, then I'd wonder what the hell they were thinking.Comment -
