you dont have to pay a guide to catch fish in the south. All you need is a boat and a little know-how. Crappie, bream, bass, you name it. Hell you really dont even need a boat.
Save your money for a deep sea trip. Now thats worth it IMO. I went 2 times last year in Panama City, FLA with a friend and 1 time on a party boat in Destin, FLA.
Great times, and loads of fun. you never know what your gonna pull up.

We will stay inshore in the backwaters. Fishing for redfish and speckled trout. No rough water.
