I should say who goes to the conf championship.

I heard someone say if Texas, Texas Tech and OU tie with one loss then the team with the highest standings in the BCS would be Big 12 south champ. Any truth to that?

They take out 1AA wins I think so if one team plays less 1AA teams they would go.

According to Big 12 rules, if two teams within a division are tied for first place at the end of the regular season, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall determine who wins the division and plays in the Big 12 title game. If three or more teams are tied, there are seven steps to be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the final deciding factor.

          1. The records of the three teams against each other will be compared.
          2. The records of the three teams within their division will be compared.
          3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5 and 6).
          4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.
          5. The highest-ranked team in the first Bowl Championship Series Poll following the completion of Big 12 regular-season conference play shall be the representative.
          6. The team with the best overall winning percentage (excluding exempted games) shall be the representative.
          7. The representative will be chosen by draw.

OU would still have a road game vs. Oklahoma St. Due to rule 5 it appears this is the protocol:

            1. Texas Tech wins out, they win.
            2. Oklahoma wins out, they pass Texas in the BCS standings, they win.
            3. Oklahoma beats Texas Tech and loses to Oklahoma St. Texas Tech will advance due to winning the head-to-head game vs. Texas.

It would appear that Texas needs a lot of help to make it to the Big 12 Championship game.

The real humor in this mess will be if the Big 12 South Champ got upset in the Big 12 title game.

              Then it gets really funny.

              Suppose Oklahoma beats TT.

Then OU gets upset by Missouri in the Big 12 title game.

And suppose the final regular-season BCS rankings are something like....with Texas ahead of TT...

              1. Alabama
              2. Florida
              3. Oklahoma
              4. Texas
              5. TT.

A very real possibility considering Oklahoma is now ranked ahead of Texas even though they lost to Texas on a neutral field.

If that is the case, the BCS Championship game could very well be the Alabama/Florida winner and Texas.

Texas not only would NOT have made their own conference title game, but they lost to the team ranked behind them with identical records.

Oh, how much fun that will be. Watching the meltdown will be funny.

Meanwhile. USC stands by and watches. They have no shot at squeezing in there with the crappy schedule they have left.

That list that mtneer posted looks like the one I dug up and posted a couple of weeks ago, so step 5 on the list looks about right and I think Wheell pretty much nailed it. There isn't a Big 12 North team that all three teams -- Texas, OU & Tortilla Tech -- each played, and if they will all have identical records against Big 12 South teams assuming OU does beat Okie State and then goes on to beat Tech.

Oklahoma and Texas Tech are the only two teams in the Big 12 left that are in control of their own destinies. If Oklahoma wins their remaining two games, they will go to play in the Big 12 Championship to an inferior Big 12 North Champion. Same for Tech if the win out.

                  Texas needs help . . . .

IF Oklahoma was to beat Tech in a close game I wouldn't automatically assume they would jump Texas. Texas jumped earlier because they beat the #1 team. Also, since the BCS takes into account the writers and coaches poll I would think those voters would keep Texas ahead of Oklahoma right?

From reading everything I'd say Ok goes if they beat TT and Ok St and look good doing it and Texas does not have big blow out wins over A&M and Kansas, both of which are on the road.

Texas seems alive to me. They need to put serious beatings on A&M and Kansas and they need OK to beat TT in unconvincing fashion.

Stranger things have happened but Ok St doesnt appear to have the horses to knock off OK. So I would think that last game will not affect the mix.

I am personally rooting for a Boise State vs. Utah National Championship Game in hopes that it will piss everyone off and force a playoff system. This is ridiculous.
