#39Dawgs are a legitimate title contender. They finally have their D fully intact after all those suspensions. Georgia is a well balanced team, USC definitely has holes especially on offense. Go Dawgs +3.Comment -

#40Connor Shaw didn't just magically get better in the last few games, he's still just a decent QB. He hasn't had any pressure the last few games. He's only getting hurt because he runs all over the place like he thinks he's John Elway in the superbowl. That will change Saturday. If he doesn't get hurt before half time, he will still get shaken and throw worse than he has been.Comment -

Very good point. It is soo much different when you have a legit top 3-5 defense in your face every play. This Georgia D, with several future NFL'ers, will be even stronger with their suspended players back and a game under their belts. This team in general was young and improved every game last year, and will be a force to be reckon with before the season ends now that Rambo and Ogletree are incorporated.
Shaw is a mediocre thrower, Murray actually is more efficient this year statistically, and is a better pure passer with a way bigger upside. Not to mention the Georgia O line, a question mark at the beginning of the season, continues to impress opening up Mack truck size holes for the young RB's. USC D is legitimately good, but unlike Georgia, they sent a couple of players to the NFL last year and don't have quite the physicality that the full Georgia D unit now possesses.Comment -

Also, Shaw is a lot better than you think......And if he gets hurt or whatever you're worried about, Spurrier will send in their backup Thompson who has thrown bombs this yearComment -

Garcia was the starter last year until his drunkeness knocked him off the team and let Shaw start. Look at how Shaw performed against a solid SEC D against Vandy. He looked horrible at times, always trying to run the ball and missing throws badly. Georgia D is has several NFL'ers and is legit top 5 in the country, GL Shaw!Comment -

....He beat Mississippi State, Florida, Clemson, Nebraska, and Tennesee all without Lattimore last year
You dont complete 20 straight passes in one game by accident against a decent missouri team
One bad Vandyy game where he led the team after getting hurt means nothingComment -

Good try. None of the teams you mentioned have the defense Georgia does this year. USC won several of the games you mentioned in spite of Shaw. They scrored 14 against Miss ST and Tenn, and only 17 vs Fla. Those other two games you mentioned vs Clemson and Neb, were 2 I had huge bets on USC, because of the physicality and dominance of their D more than anything else.
The Clemson D was weak and injured at the time, and the Nebraska D actually held Shaw in check. They eventually wore down because the USC Def was soo dominant it literally put the Neb D on the field soo long they wore down at the end, don't let either final score on those two games fool you into thinking that Shaw was anything but mediocre in all 5 games.
He was helped by an awesome D or would have lost 2-3 of those 5. I watch tons of game tape, their D is not as stong this year, several players on that squad from last year will be playing this Sunday....Comment -

#52Players can improve. Shaw's a better QB than he was last year, just like Murray is. People compare previous years too often. I'm floored when I hear someone going back to 2 years ago to try to get a feel on how this game will go. These teams aren't even shadows of what they were two years ago. UGA has great talent on defense, but they haven't put it together yet with the exception of the Vandy are arguably the Missouri game.
I believe the biggest match up on the field will come from both team's offensive tackles. Which team's young tackles can handle the speed rush coming from the end? Give either of these Qb's time and they'll do some damage. Can UGA's specials teams not screw up and survive the inevitable trick play(s) Spurrier will throw at them?Comment -

#53I make parallels between team from year to year when it is appropriate and useful. Now that Georgia has it's suspended players back on defense, it is the basic same core unit as last year with 9 returning starters and a multitude of senior experience and a couple of future pro's. South Carolina has had to replace half of their D unit, including several of their most dominant weapons from last year. While it is still a solid unit, it has lost some speed and strength from last year.
As far as QB's go, past performance has to be considered. I see Murray improving as he goes, last year was a huge learning experience for him. After dropping the first 2 games of the season, he won 10 straight putting up big points and solid numbers along the way including more pts vs some common opponents as USC last year, Fla Tenn and Miss St. Murray also put up 42 pts vs a better USC defense while Shaw was riding the bench backing up a drunkard, Garcia.
It is a noticable trend with Shaw. Watch how he responds against solid SEC defense. Not only against Vandy this year but even in those wins MoneyLineDawg cited last year, they scored 14, 14 and 17 with Shaw in those 3 SEC wins. NFL talent scouts watch Murray, some have him going in the first round eventually, USC fans are about the only ones watching Shaw and thinking he may go pro.Comment -

#54Bottom line, Shaw is hot as it gets right now.....34 of his last 38 with over 100 yards rushing. He is getting better and better with a few bumps here and there.....
He may not have the skill set to go pro but what does that matter for tomorrow's game? Tyler Wilson and Tyler Bray are both 1st round QB's and their teams lose constantly.......Murray is a great QB but he hasn't had one big win yet
Yes, the Gamecocks D lost a few very good players to the NFL, but some of the younger guys have stepped up in a big way and have gotten better, Jadeveon Clowney a sophomore now is literally unblockable (I know he was good last year too but didn't even start sometimes)......They are close to last season IMO when it comes to defense and better on offense overall
Georgia is a great team too, but their defense can be scored on......Couldn't stop a nosebleed at home last Saturday, and Tenn's RB was gashing them from what I saw. 478 yards of offense they let up......Comment -

#55Yeah Shaw is good vs bad teams and bad vs good teams. His few bumps here and there occur when he plays a solid team. Granted he is getting better and he may even continue his recent hot streak (against bad D's) and finally have his 1st break out big game vs a formidable defense, but nothing in his past would indicate this is likely.
LOL@ "Murray not having a big win yet." You do realize he is a junior and he has started since his freshman year? Shaw was a drunkard's back up last year and became a starter mid season after Garcia finally got kicked off the team. Shaw led his team to less points vs Tenn, Miss St, and Fla than Murray's team had vs those exact opponents.Comment -

It may be a coinflip defensively, but I think Georgia has a much better, balanced offense. I am literally talking about Georgia-3 instead of the Georgia +3 I got them at early. It is not a huge difference, but significant enough for me to bet with confidence.
I am not a fan of Georgia. I am only a fan of money and not owning an alarm clock or calling someone boss.Comment -

#60Honestly think the the Georgia D with Rambo and Ogletree both finally back and a game under their belts is better than USC's this year. They return 9 players from a squad that won their last 10 regular season games mostly against SEC comp. USC's D replaces half their squad, including some NFL'ers.

UGA also lost their top WR Michael Bennett to an ACL in practice a few days ago.....he was a security blanket for Murray on 3rd downs which could be a tough loss.....Comment -

#61Valid points for sure, Georgia D looks super talented but not quite where the should be as a unit especially considering all the player's they brought back from last year's staff. Their is some uncertainty with them as a unit, but I think with their suspended players back and the first real challenge of the year, they step up big, a somewhat risky assumption I know.
USC D is solid as hell and I expect them to play well at home. UGa may miss their possession WR alot, especially vs a team who will challenge them on the corners and put pressure on QB.... a safety valve WR would be nice. Still think Murray and the Dawgs' big play potential on Off gives them a slight edge. Should be a great game and that +3 is where most of my value lies.Comment -
