Painkillers or anxiety medication + gambling=disaster

If we feel no pain or anxiety while gambling our natural defenses are down and we don't hear the alarm bells I think. Really hope I don't let this happen again. Disgusted with myself. Tony probably got a nice chuckle from it.

I take Xanax daily when needed but I don't sleep on it nor need to. Take melatonin to sleep. I only take .25 though, mellows me out.

I wouldn't blame on the Xanax. You probably need Xanax to reduce the effect of caffeine and to slow down a brain tormented buy a gambling addiction. Make this experience a positive force to make you a better man. being unable to sleep is a sign to be taken seriously, as there is always a cause. Popping pill will only blind your capacity to see the root of your imbalance. Yoga, a healthy diet, positive thinking, physical exercise, mind and body cleaning through a good diet and a balanced mind plus a regular sleeping schedule will allow you a to have a nice sleep.

The reason I say it's the xanax is because it's happened before with xanax or painkillers. Usually my tolerance for losing is low so I have self control but when under the influence of these I just sit there like a zombie unaffected by what would normally make me quit.

I have had sleep disorder off and on for most of my adult life. I am not an anxious person and never take anything during the day but without something to help me sleep my mind absolutely races with random thoughts. You could be on to something with the caffeine.

I disagree. I have been on it since April. I take it when needed and don't need to feel a "buzz" frankly I'd rather not. For anxiety which can sometimes make me feel like a crack head needing a fix, it makes me mellow out to the point where I feel normal. The anxiety isn't the fact my body needs xanax because if I were to be at home doing absolutely nothing I wouldn't be anxious and/or need the pill. I take the lowest dose possible though so maybe that is why.

By buzz I meant the calming in produces. I was on this stuff for two years when I was younger, dosage was increased periodically because I built up a tolerance to it. Couldn't stay on it forever, doctor said it time to taper off. I went through hell getting off of it, the symptoms I had for prescribing me xanax were 10x worse on withdrawal than before taking the drug, or at least it seemed that way.

If you've been taking it since April, even at the lowest dosage, you're probably dependent on it but don't know it.

I understand the consequences and long term possibility. Last script was 45 .25 pills on 8/3/12 abd I prob have 25 or so left. I can go days without it and be fine.

I don't remember my dosage, it wasn't high if I recall correctly. I wasn't using it to sleep, only during the day and I was working at the time. But I did take it everyday.

I believe xanax should only be prescribed short term, like for two weeks. There are other benzos less addictive than xanax

Unfortunately many of us have been in the same position whether because of booze, medication, fight with our partner, bad day at work, etc. It all just looks like numbers on a screen at the time instead of actual cash. Maybe just have Tony turn the casino off for you? If you need to take something to sleep then the possibility of this happening again will always be there sadly.

Rookie mistake not to combine alcohol with the xanax, some herb as well. Xanax is in the must haves as far as the gamblers tool box, too much stress and anxiety if you are betting big.
