I'm Really Having Trouble Sifting Through All of This...
If all of this completely unfair and blatantly ignorant Obama bashing is going to continue past a week or so on here, I am going to need to seriously consider leaving SBR. It gives me a headache and it is just ridiculous.

I've sifted through and read all of your stuff. Please do the same for me.

Lets go over a few things.

OBAMA DID NOT WIN BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK:

Do you realize what you are saying? You are willing to factor in the amount of people that voted for Obama just because he was black, but you aren't willing to factor in the people that voted AGAINST him just because he was black? You really think that being black worked to Obama's advantage? If this is true, why hasn't a black person run and won easily before him?

Anyone with half a brain could have told you the democrats were going to win this election 2 years ago. Bush is one of the most unpopular presidents of all time (contrary to BBD's beliefs), and the country has fallen from grace. Even if you don't blame Bush, the simple fact is that he was in command when this country nosedived, and obviously the American people were going to want to put someone new in there.

The Republicans sealed their fate when they chose John McCain. An American hero, yes; but an old man that voted in favor of 90% of President Bush's movements. Really? No matter who the Democrats put out there in this election, he was going to win.

Did black voters go out in greater number because Obama is black ? Of course. But a white man with Barack Obama's energy and ideals would have won this election easily, too.

I challenge you Obama haters that believe he only won on skin color alone to draw me a map. Show me what states he would have lost if not for the black vote (and please keep in mind that a) the blacks that did vote still would have voted democrat, and b) you also have to subtract from white voters that voted against Barack because he was black). Show me the road to 270 that McCain would have walked, instead of coming up with all this nonfactual nonsense that only makes sense in your head.

THIS COUNTRY NEEDS CHANGE, NOT HATE AND DISSENSION:

Take of your rose colored glasses for a minute and look around. This country is fvcked up! Whether or not you blame Bush or not, the economy is garbage, the job market is garbage, our relationships with other world powers are iffy, we are still mired in a war with no real exit strategy, the list goes on and on. We've all been hit hard on this.

I AM A REGISTERED REPUBLICAN, and I'll be the first to go over the flaws of the Democratic party with you. I supported Bush over Gore in 2000! But I'm not just some drone that is brainwashed by party affiliation. The truth is, we need change. We need a mix-up. Whatever we have done to get our country in this dire shape, things need to be shaken up. Is Barack Obama going to fix all of these problems? I have no idea. But I can tell you that he didn't vote WITH President Bush on 90% of his movements. I can tell you he is not your standard old man president. His ideals may be far fetched at time but he actually believes in them, and he will fight for us.

BBD, calling out for the guy to be impeached and calling out for another terrorist attack, are you serious? Do you know anything about Barack Obama or his policies or ideas, or do you just see the color of his skin and assume the world has come to an end?

Now is not the time to be divided. What is done is done. Stop damning the guy before he even sets foot in the oval office. Give him a chance! And support him, he's going to be your fvcking president. If he does a terrible job, we can rip him a new one like we have every president before him. But he should be allowed to go in with a clean slate, not be damned from the beginning because of his skin color.

I highly doubt any of you actually read all of this, but if you did, thanks.

I don't think BBD or JJGold care about the election, they just post things about it because it is their job.

I still think that a lot of people who have routinely voted for elephants but voted for the donkey this time did so more as a referendum against Dumbya than a vote for Obama.

Very well stated. This board is a small sample of our nation, so I can see why the election went the way it did. You have a few steeped in tradition(no matter how ass backwards), you have progressives(as this post states)who are open minded enough to give the new pres a chance, and you have others who want change for the betterment of us all.

When you have people who had different views of how they think their country should be you are going to have division. Division isn't always a bad thing. I did not vote for President elect Obama. Race was never an issue. It is that I simply do not agree with a lot of his views. I also did not agree with a lot of John McCain's views. But today is the day for those who supported Mr. Obama to gloat. You can't go from insulting each other to loving and agreeing with each other overnight.

I think it's silly to consider leaving a message board simply because people post an opinion in opposition to your own. None of our hands are forced to click on any particular thread...unless the tiny part of our brain that enjoys being angry is telling us to do so.

With all due respect, I understand what your saying, BUT people do have opinions and regardless what happens, they stick to their opinions. That being said, I dont believe you should leave, but WHY threaten this forum. I know that you have your followers and all, but hey, maybe they leave w/ you and most probably they wont. So get over yourself and focus on what really matters....picking winners. Threatening this forum is not gonna work. If you dont like what your reading, then stop reading and get back to handicapping. It's that easy.

You voted for McCain because you believed he was the right man for the job, and you don't agree with Obama's policies. I'm in total support of that. Even if race WAS a factor in your vote, I'd be fine with that too; that is your right as an American to vote based on whatever you want to vote on. But I have no reason not to believe you.

The person you wanted to win lost. Are you now declaring that the country is going to hell, or are you rooting for Obama to fail at the cost of your well-being as an American just so you could tell everyone "I told you so?"

Doubtful, because you seem pretty level-headed. But about 20 threads seem to be more than willing to do so, instead of just accepting the loss and supporting our new president and hoping for the best.

To Robyn and fiveteamer, I'm not going anywhere... what I said was that if this continues past a week or two (the initial shock period), at that point I would start considering.

I love it here at SBR because I like the mix of sports talk and non-sports talk, and I like most of you. I always just hit "New Posts" and skim through them. My point was, the reason I love this place is because it is a sports forum with a hint of other things. If this is not just a phase, and every day from here on out will be littered with politics talk based on nothing but race and hate, I just won't enjoy this place nearly as much as I do now.

I didn't vote for McCain either. I am one of those that "threw away" my vote. While I do hope for the best, I also have fears of what could happen if things go bad. You will then have some of the most bigoted people speaking out, placing all the blame on race. Which is beyond silly. I look at it this way. Congress has a lower approval rating than Pres Bush. So why anyone would want a Conressman for President is beyond me. And that went to both of the top candidates.

Fair enough. Sorry for assuming you voted McCain.

I'm very worried too... which is why these conversations fueling hate and bigotry scare me so much...

                                              It's ok.

Now who do you like in the Bama/LSU game? I have to go with my Bama boys. Not necessarily because I kiss the ground that Nick Saban floats over. I noticed during the LSU/S. Carolina game that LSU had a lot of players with cramps in the 4th quarter. It wasn't a hot night so it had to be a sign of poor conditioning. Bama has made a lot of improvements in their conditioning program.

LSU is one of the most overrated teams in the country, and they've made that clear against Florida and Georgia. I agree that Bama is the pick here... good luck
