it seems whenever i talk to small business owners, they say **** like JJ. i guess they get ****ed by the gov and competition everyday, no wonder they love to use that word so much.

That's a very astute observation. I'd never really thought about it, but I didn't become a "potty mouth" until I opened my own business and the majority of my friends were fellow small business owners. I'm trying to think of a reasonable explanation for it, but I think the answer is simply stress. I think the weight of being a sole proprietor in today's economy is just more than the average human can bear comfortably. Hence, they're constantly releasing small amounts of frustration by cursing.

Agree with Rogue, although I have had a potty mouth for some time the added stress of a business and a family that relying on it makes it tough. than you add on all the taxes we have to pay along with licenses, workers comp insurance, general liabilty etc...
sometimes I wonder why I am doing this

Most small business owners are very uneducated and people that curse a lot are usually the same.

MMike032, I'll go one further. Do you find yourself speaking louder and more purposefully to people than you did before you were in business? In addition to cursing, that's the major change I've noticed in my communications. I speak up whenever I address people, I use analogies to try to make my points stick, and I write e-mails to resemble my speech patterns with CAPS and ellipses so that the reader feels they have my personal attention.

Being a small business owner changes you inside and out, and there's only certain types of people who can do it and retain their humanity after years in this unique crucible.

yes I do, i own a carpentry business and have to deal with navive homeowners more than I'd like. I perfer to work for general contractors but with the new housing market in the toliet i am doing alot of remodeling for homeowners. I find myself losing my patience with these people that have no clue about anything to do with construction.
However I do act more professional now when around customers, afterall my business depends on it.

                    I wouldn't necessarily say that I say **** a lot.

But I definitely make good strategic use of ****.

2 weeks ago when I almost cut off my finger with a skill saw I let loose an abundance of F-bombs, than last week I got smacked in the side of the head with a board and it split my ear open, again I dropped an abundance of F-bombs.
par for the coarse though. F-bombs in the trades go together like cake and ice cream

Interesting. I always thought that in the trades, nearly amputating a digit or goring an ear automatically required a compound curse-words.

                        I assumed c*cks*ker. Perhaps motherf*cker.

                        I didn't know you could use a simple ****.

I learn things on this forum.

                            Cussing implies you mean business.
