It's too bad they don't have too many people like Reagan, McCain, Bush 1, and Colin Powell in the GOP.

                emphasis on "used to"

while i like mccain, i am glad they are getting the holy hell kicked out of them in this presidential election, and all of the house seats

Now if only all the radio pundits, and blindly staunch rebublicans, especially those on the SBR forum could muster just 1% of that class, life would be a bit smoother....but maybe a bit more dull

I was impressed with both of their speakers, but McCain had class. His followers were a different story. They booed like school yard children. People cease to amaze me with how pathetically immature we are.

Yup. The party has been taken over by the farmyard idiots, anti-intellectuals who think that because Sarah Palin is "one of us" she's suitable to play at the highest table. Never mind she's a total hick, completely ignorant of pretty much all national issues (let alone international).

McCain was too good for his party.

Yea, had they nominated him instead of war coward Bush 8 years ago, there might be a different story today. The Republican electorate ****ed themselves and they wanna blame blacks, liberals, and whomever they can.

As history understands Reagan, they will understand he is the architect of this mess and love him less. Bush 1 fell on teh sword for him, he was a good man and not a USO punk like Reagan. Colin Powell is great, he had enough of that party and doesn't want to switch, so he's just sidelining. I hope he and Obama can find a place for him in his cabinet.

When? During Eisenhower? Surely not during Reagan. I guess Nixon started OSHA, so maybe a little there.

Yea, the Repubs watching McCain's speach were booing at the calling of Obama's name, what a bunch of assholes. McCain really is too good for that party and they will understand as they go thru the next 2 decades figuring it out, denial, etc and then they will change and maybe win an election or 2.

I've always maintained McCain was a good guy, too bad about his followers though. Some people take his supporters as a measure of McCain himself, which was/is the wrong thing to do.

If McCain had been that focused and classy the last 3-4 months as he was in defeat, he may not have been boat raced in the election. Again, the most classy concession speech ever. Plus he didn't let Palin take the mike to ruin the goodwill of the concession speech.

I don't know if America will be fortunate enough to have another man like John Sidney McCain. Best politician I'm familar with, and it isn't even close.

It's sad, because if there was ever a man that deserved the presidency, it's John McCain.

I am thinking that was probably the only speech in the last several months that McCain wrote himself.

Unfortunately, McCain let himself be managed in this campaign by neocons and religious nutcakes. That was his big mistake.

I believe Barack Obama can be a terrific president and can move the country back to a nice middle place.

It was a good concession speech but his audience were kind of disrespectful. At least no one shouted out "Kill Him", "He's a terrorist", etc. Where is all the hate and anger going to go now that the election is over?

Actually I think some people started chanting something bad enough that some others were telling them to shut up. I didn't see what though, they did show a few seconds of the 'hushing' - a real shame.

McCain surrounded himself with the wrong people and let his campaign get dragged into the mud, I really thought he would win (and this is coming from a lib) at the start.

Agreed pure class, I never had a problem with him as a individual, but he never really had a chance finally the dems pulled a dirty rep move and kept accussing the man of being Bush and it worked.

It's sad, because if there was ever a man that deserved the presidency, it's John McCain.
Yea, like 8 years ago when he was actually somewhat moderate. Then the numbskull Repubs nominated Bush in light of the boob scoffing at McCain's military sacrifice. This one's on teh Republican electorate, not Bush, not McCain.
