So I was talking to an old-timer yesterday in a bar watching the games.

Guy is from NYC. Tells me he watched the first Super Bowl all the way to last years.

Asks me if I like to play the games. Said who don't?

Says he's been playing the NFL and other sports now for so long, he can't remember when he didn't.

Then looks me right in the eye and says "Do you know how many guys I know that got rich just from gambling? None. Not a single fukkin guy. Ain't that amazing?"

Got me thinking.

because they are greedy bastards, oh yes a guy or two will go on a streak and may win for a season or even longer and the books don't want one single winner for one single month. If they kept that guy he would lose in the long run. I had guys that would win but not in the long run. Guys go on streaks books like any business don't want that. I even got banned from a bookie once, why. I won two weeks in a row and that is a true story. One week allowed two not. Crazy, yes. Take my word for it nobody wins in the long run, to make that statement absolutely true you must allow for one in a million winning. I have never in my life met that one in a million and I have been involved with hundreds of players. Many hundreds.

Yes ! there ARE people that get rich of off it. but its all relative and subjective. There are guys that might rack up 50gs from a 1000 deposit ( if you consider that rich ), but the element of choice is always invovled. Would you stop there ? or risk losing it all ?

You dont necessarily have to be super sharp to get to 50k from 1k, you can also be mad lucky lol . a lucky run and reckless bankroll management will get u there.

IN the long run favs and dogs hit ROUGHLY 50/ 50. So it is possible to go on a sick stretch of wins.

But if you are asking from a 1k deposit to half million ?? just about the same as a powerball winner.

I do not consider 50k rich. I do not consider 500k rich. Although if someone I knew made 500k from a 1k deposit I certainly would applaud them.

Old guys that have been around sports are great assets to talk to. The guy I am talking about was considered the biggest bookie in the area, he wasn't. He was also considered to be mobbed up, in fact the Philadelphia Inquirer had him on the front page in the 70's. I will never forget that article. Most of it was bs. He was a friend and employed me. He died a few years ago but he was around gamblers all his life. He was a huge gambler himself and was also a coal operator he owned the business. He told great stories too, he knew nobody won.
