Networks May Not Call a Winner in Any State Based on Exit Polls Only
May not be any network projections based on exit polling, due to the fact that they got burned by false projections four years ago.

According to today's USA Today, "Television networks won't project a winner in any state until the polls there close. They may also be gun-shy about predicting winners based on surveys of voters leaving polling places, because such exit polls turned out to be inaccurate throughout most of Election Day in 2004. That means the networks may not call races until returns start to come in."

Notice that the newspaper used the word "may." Betting in smart circles say they won't resist the temptatation to call both the state winner and the ultimate winner based on their exit polls.

Which, they will surely tell us, have been much improved since the botch-up in 2004.
