And I'd rather be a fan of a franchise that makes a mistake spending money than be a fan of a franchise that doesn't spend any. Had they given him 15 mil a year it would have made zero difference and it wouldn't be as nearly as big of a deal with the critics.
Two years left on the contract after this year and in the meantime they couldn't sign prince fielder....who probbly isn't going to make the playoffs this year in spite of them having the al MVP and the best pitcher in baseball. I'd expect him to hit .230 with 30 homers and average defense over the next two years if he stays healthy.
Could it be better? Obviously. Then again they could be the red sox
