#40I don't blame Pirate fans. Pirates playing High School equivalent baseball right now. McCutching & Alvarez are the only ones worth watching but I'm sure they get pitched around which makes it difficult for them to get a good at bat.
Padre fans also keep our Stadium empty, even on the weekend during this strong 2nd half.Comment -

#44I agree about the college sports in the south but you dont consider St Louis and Texas part of the south? Rangers and Cardinals fans are some of the best in the country, and if you factor in other sports , New orleans is one of the best sports towns in the country. Redskin games are always packed , Ravens games are intense even if the Orioles game attendance are a disgraceful, not to mention Dallas fans. Its tough just to base things on one sport.Originally posted by firedawgtampa, jacksonville, atlanta all the same.... true sports towns do not wxist in the south unless its college football.
I just think places like Atlanta are not really cities but just sprawling suburbs but the Braves fans who are passionate about the team are really die hard. Baseball was really hurt by the strike in 95 but Atlanta is not nearly as bad as some of the empty seats in alot of places, but Mariners or Astros fans have an excuse I guess. Empty seats in Baltimore or Atlanta is a disgrace.Comment -

#54tough to keep up hope after 17 years of straight losing. People don't like baseball in Pittsburgh. The only reason there are 8,000 people there tonight is that it's dog-night, or "pups in the park" or whatever they call it lol.Originally posted by milwaukee mikeCome on pittsburgh

sounds like only half showed up.
sub 60 degrees and school night didn't help.
There is also alot less expendable income for pirates tix in September after blowing it on cases of Iron City, Wings, pierogis for the Stillers games on Sundays.
I gave up on this team about 2-3 weeks ago.
truth be told I only allowed myself to believe for about a 30 day period. Up until July 15 I wanted them to fail and be able to get some decent prospects for guys like Burnett, Hanrahan, Cruz, Garrett Jones, Grilli, Bedard. to help for the 2013-2016 competitive window
turns out the smoke and mirrors lasted a few weeks longer than 2011. and they added vets at the deadline and kept vets they have no need forComment -

#57haha sound like when I went to an Astros game last year for the last game of the season. Three of us went went we paid a total of $2.25 and that included stubhub fees.
I just told my pals that I would get the tickets and the beers would be on them

#67Baseball isnt in bad shape at all, an incredible market for baseball in Asia and the numbers have been great over the last 8-10 years. Yankees, Rangers,Cardinals Giants and the top clubs are averaging over 40,000 in attendance each game, the Rangers, Cardinal world series was in the top 10 for primetime shows last year and one of the most watched shows in foxs history. Revenues are up for most teams, look at the Dodgers, bankrupt and they ended up getting 2 billion dollars for the team.
Its all about television revenues and these cable markets, and the big thing baseball learned is dont let a strike ruin your sport, baseball took alot to recover from the 94-95 strike but its in very good shape. Hockeys top franchises get half the average attendance as most baseball games, a strike can just decimate a sport for years.Comment -
