    Ok so in that line of thinking, you won the bet by 4 pts(zero not possible) if you would have went by the standard rule not to cross zero you would have the other team teased from +5 to +12. They lost by 3 so you won the bet by 9 pts. The second option of not crossing the zero gives you less stress(winning the bet by 9 pts instead or a closer game spread by 4 pts) and you also didn't pay extra juice for numbers that are worthless... It's not rocket science bud. It's simple mathematical smartness
