While I understand what you're trying to say here, it's actually not logical.

The sentence "Apparently, JJ's operation took a turn for the worse" can only make sense if the operation did indeed commence in the first place. Something can't become worse - or any other adjective - if it never began nor existed at all. The word "took" in this sentence throws your whole basis for argument out the window.

Regardless, I hope JJ is recovering nicely now and is so doped up that he's not in any pain.
