I'm really excited to see what will happen this year in the NFL. A lot of teams are making big moves, and it's really exciting to see. Here are the teams I am most excited to see perform, with a short synopsis:
Miami Dolphins: Matt Moore, David Garrard, Ryan Tannehill (and his smoking hot girlfriend) - 2 veterans, and 1 phenom that is going to work his way into a starting position by season's end. The addition of Chad Johnson is more of a bonus than it is detrimental. I think his overall attitude and work ethic has taken a turn for the better, and he wants to play out his final years to the best of his ability. If he can get along with his team mates, he will make a good example for the other receivers.
New York Jets: Tebow Tebow Tebow. 3rd down, Wildcat... and I think that since he's there, Sanchez will start to take his job seriously. So there are 3 good reasons why I think Tebow is a good addition to this team. I want to see how he transforms this year, and if he has actually learned how to throw a football and not fizzle out after a mediocre season as a 3rd string half back whose job it was also to make pass attempts.
New England Patriots: Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez, Danny Woodhead, Deion Branch + Brandon Lloyd, Joseph Addai? This may very well be one of the most exciting offenses this year. The secondary will be spread so thin, and the Pats will still have decent options on the ground and from the backfield. I don't necessarily like the money that Kraft is able to put into this team for the same reason I don't like how Steinbrenner was, and now his son pump money into the team. Regardless, it will be fun to watch them pick apart defenses.
Indianapolis Colts: This is a team that has been rebuilt from the ground up. They still have some depth in their receiving core, and with the addition of Luck, they should be sitting pretty. I don’t know if they are going to be Superbowl contenders, since the defense was designed around Peyton Manning’s hurry-up offense, and a lot of corners were cut, and the Colt’s defense gave up a lot of points. We’ll see what happens. I’m intrigued.
Jacksonville Jaguars: With the assumption that Blaine Gabbert becomes a little more comfortable, he’s got quite a few options; Justin Blackmon, Laurent Robinson, and Maurice Jones-Drew. The Jacksonville offense will be a spectacle this year.
Oakland Raiders: Another pair of assumptions: Carson Palmer learns the offense and Darren McFadden doesn’t get hurt again. This team has potential, but nothing else to really report.
Kansas City Chiefs: I was this looking forward to watching the Chiefs last year but Cassel got hurt, and so did Charles. Hopefully they will have a better run this year. I’m looking forward to it.
Denver Broncos: Of course, I have to mention Peyton Manning in this... but looking back at last year, Tebow didn't win most of the games. He had good receivers but he didn't know how to utilize them; much less, how to throw the ball at them. Also, the defense did a lot more work than Tebow. The defense kept points off the board for the other team, which allowed Tebow to run his run option offense (do I hand it off or run it myself?). I think the addition of Peyton Manning is going to make this team into a serious contender.
Washington Redskins: Rex Grossman was a decent QB, but I’m biting the RG3 hype. I think he’ll be a phenomenal quarterback who has a great receiving core, running back, tight ends, and RG3 can run too. I think this offense will be even more explosive than the Patriots this year.
Minnesota Vikings: They have made a lot of changes this year. Notably, Asher Allen has retired, Antoine Winfield is getting old and coming off that collarbone injury, Adrian Peterson is coming back after having ACL reconstructive surgery. The Vikings have a lot of new draft picks. They're kind of throwing a Hail Mary at their new CBs, but I guess we'll see where that goes. The Vikings also picked up a new Tight End, and a couple receivers which may be promising.. provided that they can get their quarterback situation hammered out.
Chicago Bears: After seeing what Cutler could do with the Bears last year without an offensive line and without a very distinguished receiver, I think that the addition of Brandon Marshall and Michael Bush will help the team tremendously. His presence will not only lessen the workload for Matt Forte, but it will open up the field for him too since the other team need to stick him with double coverage most of the time. Michael Bush is a phenomenal addition as well. He's a big guy, and I expect to see him a lot on 3rd downs, and doing a lot of blocking for Forte and Cutler.
San Fransisco 49ers: Last year they were so close… this year they are ready. Hopefully Alex Smith can get rid of the Red Zone jitters… but even if he can’t, Moss can run his “throw it up and I’ll catch it” route, while Manningham and Crabtree get first downs, and Frank Gore and Brandon Jacobs pound it down the field. The success of this team once again lies solely in the performance of Alex Smith. Let’s see if he can do it.
In conclusion, the top 3 offenses that I'm looking forward to watching in the 2012 season are:
San Fransisco 49ers
Denver Broncos
Chicago Bears
