    Jacksonville lineman is paralyzed
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Doctors say Jacksonville lineman Richard Collier is paralyzed below the waist and that they had to amputate one of his legs.

Collier was shot and critically wounded earlier this month as he sat in a vehicle outside an apartment building with a former teammate.

Doctors say he has 14 bullet wounds but is now in stable condition. No one has been arrested.
So messed up, was only in his 3rd season.

What's the deal with so many NFL players getting involved with this kind of BS? Every year another NFL player gets shot up. We don't hear this so much from other sports, or am I just missing it?

I'm not dropping the N-bomb. I'm more curious if it has something to do about the culture that breeds these guys to be super aggressive enough to make it in the NFL. Maybe it takes the type of personality that allows them to be put in the types of situations where the ultimate physical sacrifice is possible. It intrigues me, but I don't think it has anything to do with race.

I also don't think it has to do with steroids, much less gambling-gangs-drugs except as it relates to the excessive risk-taking body-abusing behavior that seems to define the personality that is required of an NFL player.

Yeah my heart ended in my stomach when I heard this. If it was some dumb rich blond girl, it'd be the headline on cnn right now...
From what I understand, he was not 'wrong place wrong time' - just like Sean Taylor. There was a report a week ago about what the police have found, but I can't remember for the life of me what it said. He clearly wasn't up to anything bad at all was the implication, if I remember right.

I hope he pulls through - it's a tragedy. It just keeps getting worse, too. I feel for the guy and his family.
