Should I Go Heavy On Detroit ?
I'm thinking about doing an accumulator (parlay) of New England and Detroit

What do you guys think ?

I think I read somewhere, maybe, on this forum: No rookie quarterback covers the spread in first game. Something like that.
Detroit seems like a good play. Atlanta should suck.
However, New England- dicey. I read that in 2006, Larry Johnson owned them, so I'm skeptical about that.
    That is mt two cents.

Yeah but it's just a moneyline accumulator (no spreads)

All the Lions and Pats have to do is win

I was gonna risk $1440 to make $1000 ...What do you think ?

Remember too that the Lions are 0-8 STRAIGHT UP the last eight times they have been road favorites.

                Good stat.
Atlanta, worse team in the NFL.
Detroit, best preseason team, and healthy.
ATL is at home, however, and home dogs, in week #1 is not a good idea to bet against.
Title of thread was to bet"heavy" on Detroit.
Wouldn't bet heavy. Small bet, yes.

Who cares about preseason. Pats went 0-4 last year in preseason then went 16-0 during the regular season...means nothing

You're missing the point, Bobby. Never said the Lions are going to the bowl, or anything.
Lions went 4-0, in the preseason, but more importantly, they stayed healthy. They cut Tatum Bell, got Rudi. They build some confidence, and is a team that needs it.
Preseason is not for the Pats/Colts/Chargers, because they have their rosters, already, and they just want to be healthy, because they all have worked with each other, for years.
I'm tired of you guys saying the preseason don't mean zip, don'tmean shit, don't matter, blah blah blah blah. Well yeah, when it comes to the Bowl.
I also said, don't bet heavy on the Lions. 3.5 on the road in the first week, is too dangerous, even if it is against the worse team in the NFL.

i would tease the pats and the lions 7 points (Pats -9.5) + (Lions +4)

pats should beat KC by double digits.

lions should kill Atlanta but if they do somehow lose it will be by a fg so be safe and tease them 7 pts! GL

I think the Pats is a strong choice. I am staying away from Detroit/Atlanta. I really think it could go either way. I have other teams that I would take over Detroit. I like DAL, PHI, and NYJ in their week one matchups. If you can grab anyone of those in a moneyline that would be very attractive.

The real question is how strongly do you feel Detroit is going to win? I searched this forum for opinions on the Giants/Redskins. There were a lot of people that liked the Redskins and I almost sat that one out, but I went with my gut and fortune smiled on me. If you feel that DET vs ATL is more compelling than the 14 other games left in week 1 then trust your gut.

As far as risking $1,440... ...only bet as much as you can stand to lose. There are a lot of brilliant minds on this site, much smarter than I. Pick their brains and get a good money management system in place. It's key to your survival. If you have no money you can't play, so protect your capital like your life depended on it. I tend to be a high risk guy and it's burned me more than once.

There's my 2 cents. Good luck. Hopefully your $1,000 richer by tomorrow night. Good luck.

                            e

Just a couple of observations here as I read through this thread

Hone dogs playing in week 1 since 2003 are:

                            SU: 8-15-0 (-5.7)
                            ATS: 11-12-0 (-2.1)
                            O/U: 5-18-0 (-8.6)

Detroit playing in week 1 since 2003 are:

                            SU: 4-1-0 (9.6)
                            ATS: 5-0-0 (10.3)
                            O/U: 2-3-0 (-2.7) avg total: 41

Some downside for Detroit. An NFC road fav in week 1 playing an NFC opponent with a Div game the next week since 2003 are:

                            SU: 2-3-0 (2.6)
                            ATS: 1-4-0 (-1.4)
                            O/U: 1-4-0 (-11.0) avg total: 42.8

My personal opinion is the situation in Atlanta is no better than shitty at this point and they are clearly a rebuilding team. A rookie coach and qb and a below avg secondary (corners looked ok in pre) spells trouble for Atlanta IMO and like him or not Kitna is a journeyman qb with some pretty top notch targets to pass to, he should have a big day. Downside to these arguments is Detroit until they prove otherwise are also a shitty team and a tough one to bet on the road as a fav but I believe they roll the hawks Sunday based on their off. fire power.
