What happend to the dream team?

Where did all the bandwagoners go?

I'm sure they will be back next pre-season

There was at least 100 threads saying how GREAT this team would be.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that they will live up to the dream next season.

They won the last 4 games of the season and got off to a bad start early on with a tough schedule.

My main concern is that cancer DeSean Jackson. Piss-poor season and whined about it and his contract the whole time. He left a bad taste in Reeds mouth; I expect someone else to pick him up now that he's free. Getting rid of him is boost to morale.

I'm an Eagles season ticket holder, I also bet against the team whenever possible this year. The coaching staff was all new, the offensive line was a constant rotation, there were about 5 new starters on defense. It doesn't take a genius to understand that is a recipe for disaster.

It's so funny going to a fantasy football draft with 12 Eagles fans. They all fight to take Michael Vick in the first round. Michael Vick is perhaps the most overrated football player of my entire generation. No team will ever win a Super Bowl with Michael Vick at quarterback. As soon as a team starts receiving hype, remind yourself that Michael Vick is the QB and therefore they will never perform up to their potential.

Having said that, I do believe the Eagles will have a very strong regular season next year. They have a ton of playmakers on offense, and their defense improved steadily as the season went on. I think they will return to form and compete for the NFC East title, then fade in the playoffs as Michael Vick always does. This year I bet against the Eagles at every turn, next year I will be betting on them to win the East.

Who is your team? For most teams in NFL it is always next year.

I'm not sure I understand all of the hate for Eagles fans here. Only one team can win the Super Bowl each year. Therefore, 31 teams have to say the sentence "There is always next year". Comment #7 makes no sense. Can someone remove it from this thread for lack of competence.

Secondly, can someone please explain the "Frontrunner" comment. The Eagles have never won a Super Bowl, yet for as long as I have been attending 8 home games a year (about 20 years now) every game is sold out. Regardless of team or sport, more casual fans show up when a team is winning, but there is no way Eagles fans should be singled out in this category. Philadelphia has always been a football town, and there is reason to identify Eagles fans as frontrunners.

Actually I have more to say about the frontrunner comment.....when Eagles fans gather and discuss their favorite teams/players, we always circle back to the early 90's Eagles, who never achieved the success of the Mcnabb Eagles. Those Buddy Ryan years define the blue collar mentality of Eagles fans and how much we loved to watch that defense. We don't spend hours talking about the 4 consecutive NFC Championship games, because we are not frontrunners.

Phillies fans may be closer to front runners. I don't think the Vet or CBP were selling out in the late 90's or early 2000's. I will admit I didn't want to pay money to watch Bobby Abreu half-ass it, and it certainly hurt when Scott Rolen declared he didn't want to play at Veterans stadium anymore. Those were rough years for the Phils and I don't think I attended more than 1 or 2 games a year. It's a lot more fun to watch Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Shane Victorino, Carlos Ruiz, and an all star pitching staff.

Seriously though don't try to link the Eagles in with that concept. As I said above, Philadelphia will always be a blue collar football town.

So in summary.......I can write 5 or 6 paragraphs explaining why Eagles fans are not front runners. They can sell out their football stadium for decades on end. They can consistently rank as a top 5 football market every single year.....but you your final stance is "oh stop it".

Thank you very much for your contribution.

Lot of hate for Philly. They are a team with a lot of big stars which can equal big problems trying to gel. They might be a team to put minor coin on for futures next year. Oh and I would personally have DeSean go for a little picnic...Cheers

All right millflavor thanks for the compromise. As a New Yorker you should understand the dynamic of Philadelphia. It will always be a football town as far as loyal fans are concerned. The Flyers are probably the second most loyal fan base, and they rival the Eagles.

There are a lot of amazingly loyal Phillies fans out there who have held season tickets year after year, but this new generation of fans who jumped on board with the overpaid cast of hired guns that Ruben Amaro is bringing in, well they are probably all front runners. The saddest part is that Pat Gillick put together an amazing World Series champion team made up of a few home grown stars, and a bunch of roles players. Now Amaro has taken over and turned us into the newest version of Brian Cashman's Yankees, or Omar Minaya's Mets. It's sad to watch.

the eagles were one win short of doing the same thing the giants did.

the giants got hot at the right time, and so did philly.. the only difference was philly started so bad they couldnt recover whereas the giants were always 1 win ahead and didnt have to worry about battling two teams for the divsion, and instead could focus on their remaining two games with the cowboys late in the year......

i think if philly had squeaked into the playoffs like the giants did, this coversation would probably not be taking place..

that being said, they still need a new DC in my opinion. juan castilllo is still a moron and he is not extracting the potential out of that defense.

they were never really a "dream team", and made no significant additions other than nnamdi, a player which other teams wanted so they automatically transferred their hate to philly.

as this team grows they will be back, and im sure if vick stays healthy, this wont be the last you hear from them!

What a stupid thread to start

                                          1-coaching staff was new
                                          2-a lot of new players
3-jackson was playing hardball bc he wants a new contract
4-that dream team quote was blown apart by sports center, thank them for the useless hype that NO REAL eagles fan believed in

If the Eagles were so "bad" why were they a favorite in almost every game? Because they are a VERY deadly team, just didnt have the chemistry and when they finally got the chemistry, it was too late

But mark my words, you will find me in the NHL section of this forum, and the NFL section once the new season starts. The Eagles WILL be a dangerous team next season, mark my words

                                          By the way...Patriots -2.5 is a GIFT..

4th and Stupid, I have to disagree with your comparison of the Eagles to the Giants. The Eagles on their final 4 games again MIA, NYJ, WAS, and the DAL second stringers while the actual team prepared for the winner-take-all against the NYG the finals week. Meanwhile the Giants played an unbelievably difficult schedule down the stretch. The Giants beat the 13-3 Patriots, should have beat the 15-1 Giants, won 3 crucial games down the stretch, then beat both GB and SF on the road in the playoffs.

There is literally no way to compare the Eagles to the Giants this year.
