The Patriots sustained their first casualty of the season, and a fairly significant one, as safety Tank Williams was placed on injured reserve yesterday, ending his season.
Williams, who was signed as a free agent during the offseason, injured his knee in Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Ravens while playing on special teams.
During his first training camp with the Patriots, the defensive back had been playing most often at inside linebacker alongside Tedy Bruschi, as Patriots coach Bill Belichick was experimenting with how best to deploy the hard-hitting Williams.
