Colts and Andrew Luck?

Gonna be interesting. Luck's trade value is not as astronomical as most people think with Matt Barkley and Landry Jones being so highly regarded.

It all depends on Manning's health. If Manning is good to go start of next season, how many more season's does he have left in him?

The Colts could potentially draft Luck and keep him as a backup for a few years and use Manning as mentor to him. The dude would be a stud like Rodgers when his time eventually comes.

Sitting luck behind manning is like driving your minivan and leaving the Porsche in the garage. No way should Andrew luck sit behind manning for one snap. If colts want manning they should draft a player who can help them now, not any qb. If you stick with manning, stick with manning all the way, but dont draft his backup to sit behind him. To be truthful, the colts don't know what they need, they would take luck just to be on the safe side. A punkish move.

I don't think they would draft Luck, they are realizing now more than ever that they can't just keep relying on their QB. They have problems all over the field that they need to address and trading the pick to a team who could use luck would probably yield them a buncha help at other key positions.

Can you name QBs who have sat behind Peyton? Sorgi? Painter?

Compare that to QBs who backed up Brett Favre, for example (Kurt Warner, Mark Brunell, Matt Hasselback, Aaron Rodgers, many others). Even Tom Brady produced Matt Cassell and Brian Hoyer now seems to be drawing trade interest as well. I could probably go through the entire list of great QBs and find understudies that have done better than the QBs who have sat behind Peyton.

For a variety of reasons, sitting behind Peyton has no evidence of producing a quality QB, just the opposite. A few reasons are that Peyton takes all of the practice reps and that the offense is designed around Peyton's abilities. Compare that to a guy like Favre who probably made every excuse to skip a practice snap and played in a relatively generic offensive scheme.

If Luck is really so valueable, I would trade him. Always better to have more picks. And as someone else said, there are a couple other highly regarded qb's available as well. Take one of them plus the extra picks. Luck might be an Elway, but maybe one of these other guys will be a Marino.

Chargers traded Eli Manning for Phillip Rivers plus a 3rd round pick in 2004 (which ended up bing Nate Kaeding) and a 1st round pick in 2005 (which ended up being #12 overall Shawne Merriman). In retrospect, the Chargers got a ransom for Eli and I think most people would now grade Rivers above Eli comparing their overall career performance.

People keep talking about using the Aaron Rodgers example of sitting for 3 years behind Favre, but Rodgers wasn't a #1 overall pick, he was picked #24 overall. There's a world of difference there. #1 overall picks tend to start immediately, Eli is the only recent counter example that comes to mind and that probably points to the fact that he didn't deserve to be the #1 overall pick. If we look at another example like Kevin Kolb, who was picked at #36 overall, he also sat for 3 years behind McNabb and Vick, although he was set to be starter last year before his injury and the subsequent play of Vick. Just some examples to think about, there's no way in hell that a #1 overall pick will sit for 3 years, but maybe a #20-#40 overall pick could possibly do so.

ESPN loves this game because it adds more fuel to the entire will the Colts draft Andrew Luck and if they do what will happen to Peyton Manning debate. There is no debate, draft Andrew Luck and let him hold a clip board the real debate here is why do I keep starting Matt Bryant as my fantasy kicker.... If Manning is healthy they should dangle the pick. If they can get what they feel is good value for it do it. Otherwise draft Luck let him sit for a yr & then re-evaluate & decide if they now trade Luck or trade Manning. Colts are about two yrs too early here as Manning (if healthy) has 4-5 yrs left in him & NO WAY is Luck sitting for 4-5 yrs & neither is Manning.

It's a tricky situation for sure but it should play itself out. Good problem too have.

I can not see the Colts keeping both Manning and Luck... that like $75 million in Guaranteed money for only 1 position. Take one or the other.... Colts should trade the pick...take the ransom money and can address the QB position later in the draft....

Colts know what they have in Manning... Luck could be amazing or he could be a bust. If Manning cant pratice by FEB next year... release him.. and take Luck... but if he is healthy you keep him..
