Any tips for a beginner (money mgmt primarily)
So I just started a few weeks ago after A LOT of research and hanging around friends who are into sports betting and I feel like I got "tricked" into parlay's. The payouts look great, but, well, I haven't hit any.

So as someone who's going to be a CASUAL sports better, should I start out betting on one team, like most, maybe two on one card, to get the bankroll up, or ....? When I say one team, I mean one pick per card but betting on multiple teams, not just one pick a week. What's a good decent amount of picks to make per week to start out? 3, 5, 8? Should I even consider doing two plays on one card?

Thanks in advance for any tips. Love the forum!

My one best piece of advice would be the two percent rule. Two percent of your total roll for the season is your absolute max per wager, no matter how certain it seems. And your roll should be cash that you won't miss-as in you'll be ticked if you lose it but it's nothing you need to keep life rolling. Cheers and good luck.

I only do parlays with "house" money. If you are behind or basically even - stick with one game at a time with a reasonable unit bet. 2% rule mentioned above is good.

when i first started, i always went for parlays too. they suck and you'll lose all your bankroll if that's all you play. find 2-4 single plays that you like the most each week (or day if you're betting on anything besides NFL) and bet the same amount on each one.. if youre good at finding a few good plays your money will increase each week as long as you do better than 50/50 each week

dont focus on the tout angle. its all about information. i like to see what opinions are. maybe get tuned to some interesting angle, thought or strategy. DONT CHASE till you got the right money management for it. i played world series game 1 texas moneyline game 2 stl moneyline & texas +1.5. theres a million opportunies cherry pick the best ones. make sure you get good value. value is not always in the price alone, but the percent the ticket will cash. sometimes its good to have no bets at all.

Here's the best advice: Don't gamble! You can't win. Nobody can. Actually, there is 1 person in the world who won. He was on 60 minutes. And he has limitless funds to back up losses, from oil or something. One more thing, don't think this crap makes sense. Nobody knows shi*. Trust me. Mosy of these games are decided by the bounce of a ball, which nobody could predict. There is no rhyme or reason. I mean the Rams crushed the Saints and they were a 13.5 point dog. That's one of countless examples. If you decide to gamble, limit yourself and don't bet over your head. And don't chase losses. And don't be surprised when ur celebrating with a 3 TD lead, and some miraculous nonsense happens causing you not to cover and then proceed to make anger bets and double up putting urself in a whole. There's ur advice!

                My advise for starting..

                1. Look at the lines when they first get released. Pick 2-4 games MAX. Bet 2 games first and follow during the week to see how the lines move.

                2. Dont take any ML or juices over -130 -140... skip it look for something else

                3. Try LIVE BETTING a game... this has been my favorite action this year. You can hedge bets easy..and hit nice value lines. For example, you often can get a ML of +200 for a team that is down 7 points in the 2nd quarter..(perhaps before the game that team was -150.

Good luck and stick to your plan...
